Dates set to book a winter murder mystery

Everyone loves a mystery. Amateur sleuths, these weekends are for you! If you like Agatha Christie or Hercule Poirot, here’s a chance to engage your own detective skills.

Get your friends together for a private murder mystery at Brambleberry Winery. Overnight stays are required to participate with a minimum of three rooms. We have murder mysteries designed for between 6 and 11 characters. Extra guests without an acting part may serve as investigators.

Murder mysteries must be booked a minimum of two weeks in advance so we can get character information sent to participants.

Murder mysteries are held only during the winter season. Here are the 2018 available dates:

Jan. 5, 6, 12, 26 and 27

February 2, 3, 23 and 24

March 2, 3, 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24

Includes overnight accommodation, hosted murder mystery game and breakfast. You may purchase dinner at the inn for an extra charge. Consult with the innkeeper on menu. Wine and beer are also available for purchase until 9 p.m.

10 guests: $950

8 guests: $850

6 guests: $750

Prices include sales tax.

Here are the murder mysteries you can choose from:

Death Bemoans Her (10 characters)
Murder Most Green (7 characters)
Death in them thar hills (9 characters)
Evil Never Dies (6 characters)
Lurking Down the Bunny Trail (6 characters)
Death is a Cabernet Ol’ Chum (8 characters)
Gobble, Gobble, Death and Trouble (6 characters)
Love Writes a Deadly Verse (9 characters)
Death Plays a Role (6 characters)
Medieval Murder Mystery (11 characters)
I Saw Mommy Killing Santa Claus (6 characters)

You may choose one menu for the evening’s dinner, which is not included in the murder mystery package price. Prices range from $20 to $45 per person, depending on the menu chosen. (Lasagna, pork, meatball, chicken or beef dinner.) Consult with Sherry about the dinner choices. Wine and beer may be purchased with the meal. Price does not include tax.

You could also choose to do your murder mystery with breakfast.

Our murder mysteries are written by a professional writer. Additional investigators can be added.

You do not need to go a lot of expense preparing a costume, but it will certainly add to the experience. Check out your closet for clothes that fit the part and add one or two props. We can help with suggestions.

Once you select a character, we will send you information about your part, which you should not share with anyone else — even your partner! We expect the mystery dinner evenings to take about 3 hours.

Remember, anything you say can be used in a court of law against you!

Grand Wedding Pavilion nearing completion

Construction is nearing completion on Brambleberry Winery & Country Inn’s wedding event center.
Thanks to all who came to our sneak peek preview of the Grand Wedding Pavilion on Oct. 29. Construction work continues on our spacious commercial rest rooms. The new septic system is in and landscaping is nearly complete.

Elopements and intimate winter weddings

Meanwhile, now through April 14 Brambleberry is offering our intimate winter wedding packages. The inn is beautifully decorated for the holidays and makes a great backdrop for photos. Christmas time, New Year's and Valentine's week are all great times for a special, private family wedding or elopement.

Our feature package includes overnight whole house accommodations for 10, an officiated ceremony in our library (with your choice of readings and vows) and a delicious breakfast/brunch served on a beautiful tablescape -- all for only $999 (tax included). Add an additional night for a total of $1,499.

Up to two extra guests may stay over for a small charge. An evening meal may be purchased for an additional charge or enjoy pizza at the winery. Other restaurants are an easy seven to 15 mile country drive.

Ceremony-only elopement packages start at only $149.

For large celebrations of up to 300, Brambleberry's new Grand Wedding Pavilion opens in late April 2018. This magnificent indoor/outdoor venue is Western Wisconsin's best new wedding location!

Call or email to schedule a visit.

Winter wines being released

December will mark the return of some of our favorite red wines that have been aging in our cellars. Highland Red -- our top-selling dry red that is a blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and cabernet franc -- will be back by the middle of the month as well as our Full Monte -- an Italian montepulciano -- and the Dragon Slayer -- a big Italian barolo-style wine. Of course we still have a good supply of whites and sweeties as well.
The holiday season is also the perfect time to enjoy a cup of mulled wine. We recommend selecting a bottle of our Wallace Wapatui, a semi-sweet, full-bodied red.

Mulled wine recipe

1 bottle of red wine
1/2 cup sugar
1/3 cup brandy
6 whole cloves
4 allspice berries
2 cinnamon sticks
(Optional -- can add up to one-half cup of water to taste).
Directions: Combine ingredients into sauce pan. Simmer (don't boil) for 10 minutes. Strain and serve. Can also be refrigerated after cooling and reheated in the microwave.

Winter getaway time

Winter is the perfect time to book a romantic weekend getaway. Relax in one of our deluxe whirlpool rooms and enjoy a glass of wine in front of a crackling fire. Come and recharge!
