WEEKLY NOTES FROM THE WORKSHOP
48 | 2017

How are things going? The week is nearly over, the weekend is close. Time to do some useful procrastination ;).  Ten things I found interesting last week. Get a coffee. Enjoy the read.

The technology behind Bitcoin could touch every transaction you ever make.

A great description about what the blockchain really is about. There is much more than just currencies.

Robots make progress.

This was the tweet of the week. Elon wishing us sweet dreams. Scary. Indeed.

Coding together. Real time text editor.

As someone who still feels like a coding newbie, and frequently seeks help to learn and fix things, this sounds great. Teletype(beta) for Atom lets developers share their workspace with team members and collaborate on code in real time.

A handbook on design systems

The guys from Invision do amazing stuff. Not only with their software but also with their content marketing efforts to educate and help to make designers better. Great overview on design systems, and a handy link to share with people or colleagues outside of the design apartment.

BBC launches VR division and Spacewalk experience

Some people are a bit disappointed with the overall progress VR was making in the last year, so it's great to see when some of the big old players are entering the game.

Dollars and Sense

Reading this week the brand new book by Dan Ariely. He is one of the behavioral economists that follow up the big Daniel Kahnemann and Richard Thaler. In his new book he writes about our issues to show rational behaviour when it comes to money.

Breathe Easy

Awair tracks toxins and chemicals in your air and gives you personalized recommendations to help you stay safe and healthy.

Design Matters: Massimo Vignelli

An absolute classic: Design Matters by Debbie Millman. This podcast existed already on my iPod 2nd generation. Surprised that there are still designers out there who haven't listened to an episode. So here another shoutout: In this older episode Debbie talked to Massimo Vignelli about his favorite typeface, his fight against vulgarity and meaningless design, and what he means by forceful design. The current episode with Mike Mills is great as well.

Emergence - How stupid things become smart together

How can many stupid things combine to form smart things? How can proteins become living cells? How become lots of ants a colony? What is emergence? - For designing platforms and products in a connected and fast changing world that can't be controlled anyways, this principle of thinking in systems and algorithms, should be done more often.

Wait but why - Inside the mind of a master procrastinator

Tim Urban writes one of my favorite blogs on the internez: Wait but why. This is his TED talk on procrastination. The most meta and fun thing to watch this week to procrastinate. You need more stuff to get some time from the clock? Here's his dramatic story on what it was like to do a TED talk

That’s it for today. Have a great weekend. Stay as you are. Sleep well.

And yes, as always: If you found anything here interesting, feel free to share it with some friends. ✌🏼
