LEADERSHIP & YOUTH DEVELOPMENT

The 2017-2018 Leadership and Youth Development year kicked off with a bang on Wednesday, November 15, and the Board is excited to roll out new programming led by our EGRHS students. Approximately 140 ninth through twelfth-grade students were accepted as student leaders for our three chief programs: Together Everyone Achieves More (TEAM), Students Together Educating Peers (STEP), and Teens Against Tobacco Use (TATU). Each of these three programs serves an important role in our district, providing our fourth, fifth, and seventh-grade students with positive youth role models and coaching district children on positive behaviors. It truly is a wonderful initiative that showcases the strong ties upon which our shared East Grand Rapids community is built. After spending the last few weeks building strong ties within smaller cohorts, youth leaders will meet again during their lunch period on Wednesday, December 6 to begin planning their lessons ahead of their presence in elementary and middle school classrooms this February. LYD is an important cornerstone of EGRHS, and we are excited to help our youth leaders grow in their craft!

STAGE BOOSTERS

The East Grand Rapids High School Drama department is proud to announce our student directed play!  Sam VanderVeen and Nate Durell are directing  'The Greek Mythology Olympliganza' by Don Zoldis.  Two battling narrators attempt to cover the entirety of Greek mythology using audience participation, outlandish characters, and general theatrical insanity.  Culminating in a heart-pounding, five-minute, two-actor version of The Iliad, this fast-paced, free-wheeling play is wild, silly, and a complete blast for all ages.  'Olympiaganza' will perform in the little auditorium on December 15 and 16 at 7:00 PM.  Tickets are $6, general seating, and available at the door or online at EGRHSDrama.org.
