Silent Night
The story of the song Silent Night is pretty amazing. A broken organ led to a song written for a guitar becoming a Christmas classic. In fact in Austria, the place it was written, the song is only sung on Christmas Eve, or as we say here, Heilige Abend (Holy Night). It reminds me of the impact one person can make for the whole world. That it took place in a small Austrian village encourages me that the students we reach in Austria really do have the potential to transform the world. And it reminds me of the most important person to ever walk on the earth as he transformed the world on that night.
Christmas this year has been marked in our lives as I'm sure it has been in many of yours by bustling activity, parties and children's choirs.
A highlight has been the student Christmas Outreach party. "Lighthouse Nights Christmas Party" 400 packages of cookies with invitations were handed out on university campuses in partnership with another local student group. We then hosted the party in the transformed sanctuary of the church with Christmas songs, a brief message and a great party atmosphere with all the Christmas trimmings. A number of new students were in attendance and they heard a clear message about the love of God in sending Jesus to us.
It was a great close to a year that has seen many of the dreams we have for student ministry in Austria begin to take shape. The student group in Graz is growing beyond the space available and looking to plant new groups on another night. The Student ministry in Vienna is taking off and has had a great semester so far with new students coming, students being baptized in water and new leaders being trained. A new couple has arrived from the US which will strengthen the group and expand the leadership team.
We want to thank all of you for your prayers, encouragement and partnership. We are so glad we are not in this alone. We love to hear from you and are happy to answer any questions you might have.
We Wish you the merriest of Christmases and a very happy New Year.

Until we get a new family picture taken, this is still us from 3 years ago. Look for a new photo in the next few months.
