Myanmar (Burma)
Slain Rohingya
According to a survey conducted by Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) also known as Doctors Without Borders, at least 6,700 Rohingya Muslims including at least 730 children under the age of five, were killed between August and September in a ethnic crackdown by Myanmar's security forces. The country's military blames the violence on "terrorists" and has denied any wrongdoing. MSF states the number is a conservative estimate and far exceeds Myanmar’s official death toll of 400. They also stated that more than 647,000 Rohingya have fled into Bangladesh since August.

China
Collecting DNA
According to a new Human Rights Watch report, Chinese authorities are collecting DNA samples, fingerprints, eye-scans, and blood types of millions of people aged 12 to 65 in the western region of Xinjiang. Xinjiang is home to over 11 million Uighurs, a  Muslim Turkic minority and the region long been subject to tight controls and surveillance not experienced elsewhere in China. The mandatory databanking of a whole population’s biodata, including DNA, is a gross violation of international human rights norms,” said Sophie Richardson from Human Rights Watch.

England
New U.S. Embassy

A new U.S. embassy built in London for more than $1 billion, is the most expensive U.S. embassy to be built in the entire world. The 12-story glass cube built on the banks of the Thames River contains a perimeter pond with recycled waterfalls and deep trenches and an array of solar panels on the roof to provide power to the building. James Timberlake, the architect of the building, said the design was inspired by European castles. The embassy is scheduled to open on January 16th.
