Happy New Year from Roedde House Museum!
Dear Friends & Family of Roedde House,
We hope you had a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year! It is so incredible to believe that we have rolled our calendars into the new year of 2018. Although I only joined the Roedde House in the later months of 2017, I know there has been so many fantastic events, tours, classical and jazz concerts, workshops, school programming, and various forms of collaborations from our Board Members, volunteers, members, and the public. It is thanks to all of you for making 2017 so meaningful to the Roedde House.
As for the new year, Annika and myself look forward to working closely with everyone in achieving great things! They say 2018 predicts a year of hope and promise while marking the beginning of inspired courage, goals, dreams, and innovations. I don't know about you, but 2018 sounds like a good year!

The Roedde House Jazz Series is proud to present a jazz concert on Thursday, January 11th at 7:00pm. Musicians to be determined.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors. Show begins at 7pm. Please arrive 15-20 minutes in advance.
Tickets are available at the door or via email/phone reservation with the Roedde House. Concert Series passes always welcome.

On Sunday January 14th, join us for a concert with the Amicus Duo of Howard Meadows, clarinet, and Craig Addy, piano. They will present a program of convivial and warm-hearted music by Brahms, Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, and Addy.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $12 for students and seniors. Show begins at 4pm. Please arrive 15-20 minutes in advance. Hope to see you there!

Meet Our Neighbours: The Kirkland House
This January, we are excited to feature our neighbours at the Kirkland House located in Delta. Present Colin Campbell took time to tell us about the museum's history and public engagement!
When was the Kirkland house built? When and how did it become a museum?
The Kirkland House, an Edwardian style farm house, was built in 1910 by architect J.B. Elliot. Completed in 1911, William Kirkland and his family lived in the house until the late 1940's. In 1949, Mr. Claire Haynes purchased the home and farmed the 280 acres until the mid 1950's. Followed by a series of house renters, the farm house and land was abandoned. In 1975, the Genstar Corporation acquired the property from the city of Delta and intended to demolish the house. However, a small group of volunteers took on the task of restoration and formed the Kirkland House Foundation in 1992. After ongoing restorations and hard work of volunteers, the Kirkland House became a museum! In 2004, Delta did a no-cost land exchange with Genstar and the site now proudly sits in a public park.
Who were the Kirklands?
William Kirkland and his wife Edna were early settlers and reeves of Delta. With their six children, they lived at the Kirkland house which they named "Hawthorne Grove".
Is the house open to visitors? If so, what can visitors expect to experience?

What types of events and programming do you feature?
The Kirkland House provides a variety of community events and programming. These include over 30 weddings a year, birthday parties for all ages, summer BBQ's, celebrations of life, fundraisers, workshops and dances.
Any up and coming events?
During the summer, the Kirkland House has an annual open house on Canada Day featuring old fashioned events and celebrations to encourage community engagement. This includes a BBQ and a variety of activities including rides, games, spinners, weavers, live music, and the Delta Police Pipe Band. The Canada Day celebrations run from 12-4pm.
What do you like the most about working at the Kirkland House?
We enjoy the 30 or more volunteers who come each week to contribute to the Kirkland House. They are essential to the house and we value their support!
