Gas Blast
On Tuesday, an explosion ripped through Austria’s main gas pipeline hub killing one and injuring an estimated 18 people. The blast, occurred at the Baumgarten site, which is one of Europe's largest and most important distribution points for natural gas. News of the explosion sent the gas prices soaring due to fears it would restrict winter supplies. Authorities stated the explosion was caused by a "technical cause," without providing further detail.

Tonga
Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai

From the ashes of a volcanic eruption, the new Tongan island formed could exist for decades, according to a study released by NASA. Dubbed Hunga Tonga-Hunga Ha’apai, it first became visible to satellites in 2015 and was originally only predicted to last months. The island is situated on the north rim of a caldera atop the Hunga underwater volcano and is located about 400 miles southeast of Fiji. The island is being cosely examined by scientists and has also given researchers insights into how similar features in other parts of the solar system (Mars) may have formed and eroded.

United States
Net Neutrality
This Thursday, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is expected to vote on repealing a US law that protects "net neutrality", which prohibits Internet service providers from blocking and slowing online content. The FCC chairman, Ajit Pai, is seeking a sweeping repeal, "paving the way for internet service companies to charge users more to see certain content or to restrict access to some websites." However, more than 20 Internet experts want the US Congress to prevent the FCC's vote.
