Do you have ideas about what healthy neighborhoods look like? We’d like to hear from you and we’d appreciate your financial support. The staff, Board of Directors, and volunteers at NMCDC try and see a social “big picture” within the context of our own neighborhoods. We want to make better neighborhoods, ones in which families want to put down roots. We want to create opportunities for people of modest means to do that. Ours is an experiment based on interrelationships. We feel we must be about housing but need to, even more, find a way to be about more than just housing, or mitigation of poverty, or recreation, or parks and infrastructure development or historic or open space preservation or environmental justice or access to sound nutrition (as important as they all, individually, are). We want to be about all these and more. We want to encourage the synergies that healthy relationships generate and we’ll take chances on projects and programs that other organizations are unwilling or unable to take on. We want to see our neighborhoods revitalized as good homes for all of us. All our work stems from ideas generated by neighbors like you. That’s how we came to develop Missoula Outdoor Cinema, preserve the Moon-Randolph Homestead, build the Burns St. Community Center, develop a community land trust with 47 affordable homes (and seven more in the pipeline). It’s why, years ago, we raised the money for the Westside Park playground and the Northside Greenway. And now, it’s why we have the Burns Street Kids’ Club, the Real Meals Program, free community dinners and help run the Double Snap Dollars program.
