I hope everyone enjoyed last Saturday's first group training run.
This Saturday, December 16, is a scheduled 6–8 mile run.
Joint Ventures doors open at 7:30 AM, run departs at 8:00 AM.
Route:
Beacon Street outbound until you reach Cleveland Circle (3-mile mark)
At Cleveland Circle, take right onto Chestnut Hill Ave.
At top of Chestnut Hill Ave (300-400 meter hill) take left onto Comm Ave.
Follow Comm Ave for a little less than a mile to turn around point.
Follow same route back to Joint Ventures – Comm. Ave to right on Chestnut Hill Ave, to left on Beacon Street back to Joint Ventures.
Stops:
Water at mile 2 & 6 on Beacon Street
Gatorade at turn around point on Comm Ave.
It is a good training strategy to get used to drinking on the long runs. It becomes much more critical as runs lengthen.
Restrooms on course:
Rink at Cleveland Circle (mile 3)
Holiday Inn on Beacon Street (mile 1, 7)
Long Run Plan:
Use first mile as warm-up – easy pace
Find comfortable pace to run at
Try to find group that is running similar pace
Relax shoulder, neck, & arms during run
Find comfortable stride length
Land softly
"Yoga & Strength Training" workshop will follow the run at Joint Ventures.
This will be valuable information on poses, stretches, and body weight strength moves that you can add to your routine. I will post handout material on Furey262.com.
