Dogs Matter

Holiday Newsletter!

Tis' the season to be grateful, and Dogs Matter has plenty to be grateful for this past year.  Here are some of our highlights!

Say Hello to Wiggles and Sergeant Bill

My name is Wiggles and my owner is a Veteran who has served three tours of duty in Iraq and the Gulf War. We have been together since I was eight weeks old. I have become his most important relationship and his emotional support service dog. Lately, he has been suffering from Alcohol and PTSD issues and needs help. He has prolonged his treatment because he did not want to surrender me. He found out about Dogs Matter and they traveled to Ft. Hood to rescue me and place me in a temporary Foster Home. Now, my owner has been able to enter treatment to get healthy again. I can't wait to be a family again.

Dogs Matter Continues to Grow in Quantity and Quality

Dogs Matter provided services to over 60 clients and their dogs this past year.  A 50% increase from 2016.

Our Aftercare Program followed 15 clients that we are following for 12 months after their reunion of their dog to make sure they stay healthy and safe with supportive services that include: medical, food, pet deposits and recovery support with our Recovery Coach, Monica Davis.

Adoption Program - Dogs Matter was able to find 10 forever homes for our dogs through our adoption program for people with long term recovery.

2nd Annual Celebrating Success/ LifeWalk 2017 Event

What a great evening Dogs Matter had by celebrating our successes and acknowledging our client of the year, Kelli Timmons and volunteer of the year, Patricia Tiemeyer.  Over 120 of our good friends and supporters joined us by raising over $4500 for the 5k LifeWalk Event which Dogs Matter was partner and received 90% of what we raised to go directly to our program services. Also, 10% went toward our partners that provide HIV/AIDS services to our clients and others. A special thank you to Jeff and Donna Carter who opened up their home and provided a tasty dinner.
