PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 9, 2017

RE: Winter Storm Benji

After considering the weather from today and forecasts for the morning, the church leadership team has decided that we will be having an abbreviated Sabbath School and Worship Service for tomorrow, December 9th

Here is what we are planning for at this time:

  • Church will be opening at 10am
  • A combined Adult and a combined Children’s Sabbath School class will be held.
  • Normal Worship Service starting at 11:15am and will be attempting to live stream the sermon on Facebook.
  • The Communion Services have been CANCELLED.
  • The Adventurer’s Caroling Outing will go on as planned after services.

Please use your best judgement as to road conditions in your area.  If you feel it is unsafe, please do not attempt to travel to the church.  If possible, you may want to check gainesvilleadventist.org or our social media accounts before you leave to see if anything has changed.

If anything changes throughout the night and into the morning, please check our website or social media accounts for more information.

FROM THE EDITOR
WHITE OUT

How many of us can remember White Out?  Since the day I first started writing with a pen, that magic concoction of pigment and smell meant a do-over on my paper.  The original correction fluid dates back to 1956 when Bette Nesmith Graham invented it in her kitchen.  She was a typist and prone to making mistakes.  Starting with a mixture of tempura paint mixed in her kitchen blender, she developed the first “Mistake Out”.  She later formed her own company and kept making the product from her kitchen.  After a typing error when she accidentally typed her own company name instead of the company she was working with on a letter, she was fired from her job and decided to make this product full-time.  In fact, she even offered it to IBM, which declined the product, and she rebranded it shortly after as Liquid Paper.

Liquid Paper and White-Out was invented for one reason…to blot out mistakes. Had Bette could have potentially used her own product to save her job by blotting out the mistake, but instead, she did not notice it and the mistake survived.  The work of Christ was actually similar to White-Out.  The Bible says that our sins are as dirty rags.  Our sins show up like crimson blood droplets on a white cloth…there is no hiding them.  But instead of using human eyes, Christ saw us through God’s eyes where our sins lying in the shadows are exposed and will be cleansed.

"Come now, and let us reason together," says the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, they will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, they will be like wool"
Isaiah 1:18

Isaiah 1:18 says,

”Come now, and let us reason together," Says the LORD, "Though your sins are as scarlet, They will be as white as snow; Though they are red like crimson, They will be like wool.

Jesus is looking through the books that outline everything that we have done in our lives.  But instead of using a highlighter to bring attention to our sins, He is using a large supply of proverbial White Out to blot out the sins that we have been forgiven for.  Just as the countryside had lost its beauty when the leaves fell, the snowfall today gave the land a brand new look, one free from the crimson stains of sin, but instead gave the pureness of white.  I long for that day when Christ returns to clothe us in white robes of righteousness.

Oh, and don’t worry about Bette.  She later sold Liquid Paper in 1979 to the Gillette Corporation for $47.5 million plus royalties.  So the moral of the story is…don’t be afraid to make mistakes.  Those mistakes just might be leading you down a better path, but in the end, it is White Out that will save us from judgement.

Thanks for reading and have a great weekend,

A NEW DIRECTION FOR REVIVAL ONLINE

You will notice that this is a much more abbreviated edition of Revival Online. Well, to be perfectly honest, the email version was a bandaid because our website was so difficult to work with. Another issue was that from a technical standpoint, the current method was hard to work with, specifically how it jived with the website.  However, I will let you in on a little secret...

We launched GainesvilleAdventist.org 3.0 this week!

With that, there is a whole possibility to keep all of the content that is typically seen on the Revival Online email all within the church's website, which is now mobile friendly.  I am excited for this change as I really believe we can take our online presence to a new level.  If you haven't already, go ahead and check it out at gainesvilleadventist.org.

What does this mean for you the reader?

Well, all of the content is online at your disposal, 24x7.  No more accidentally deleted emails or forgotten passwords.  At this time, I will still publish the editorial via this email, but as far as the other content...that will all be posted at gainesvilleadventist.org.  All of the announcement slides can be viewed on the website and I have shared direct links to the locations below.

What does this mean for the editor?

More leisure time!  My typical week of preparation for Sabbath services consisted of at least 3-4 hours in the studio to produce the video announcements, plus another 1-2 hours of taking that content and putting it into the Revival Online email, which had to be completed after all of the announcements were done.  Now, this will provide some freedom that I can complete my editorial ahead of time and not have to wait until announcement slides are completed.

Please, take a look at the website and let me know what you think. I welcome all feedback and if you are interested in submitting a piece for the Revival Online Blog, please let me know!
