WISE President’s Blog: December 2017

Greetings to all WISE Members!

We have just completed B-session courses and are on a short hiatus for the holidays until Spring classes start up again in early February. Spring registration has just begun, and there is already a lot of anticipation for more great WISE courses.

As you have probably noticed, things don’t come to a total halt during the holidays. The annual Holiday Luncheon is coming up on December 12th, with lots of great food, entertainment, and a chance to socialize with your fellow members. This year, we will be holding the event in the ballroom of the beautiful new Tsotsis Family Academic Center. I hope that most of you are planning to attend. In addition, the WISE movie club remains active through the holiday break, with some more events planned for January.

We’re about half-way through our academic year – our 25th, and there are many interesting things to look forward to for next year.  In addition to the great courses, we will have several Brown Bag lunches, Worcester Night, and a trip to New Bedford to visit the newly renovated and upgraded whaling museum. And we are planning still more special events for our 25th Anniversary year, including a talk by world-renowned lecturer Maria Sirois on April 4th, and a gala  party on May 23rd to complete the year in style!

WISE members are also our ambassadors, telling your friends and acquaintances about the great things that WISE has to offer. I know it’s working, because our membership continues to grow. Just today, we hit another major goal and milestone, signing up our 400th member! Growth means more opportunities to increase our course offerings and other events for the benefit of all members, and it keeps the organization energetic and vibrant. Thanks to all of you who are a part of WISE and contribute to our continued success.

Our 25th year is off to a great start, and I’m already looking forward to more courses and events in 2018. Whatever you plan to do over the holidays, I wish all the best for you, your family, and your friends, and thanks for being a part of WISE!
Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.
Anthony J. D’Angelo
Until next time,
Joe Corn, WISE President
