PAST PLAYERS ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER
Hello <<First Name>> <<Last Name>>

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you and your family.  The Monash University Cricket Club have be working hard on the field, and despite a few injuries, we still have almost all sides in the race for finals.

The 2017/18 Past Players Day was held on Saturday 16th of December, the crowd who attended saw a thrilling end to the first XI match, with the Royal Park Reds needing 6 from the last ball to win, but they were only able to get a 4, despite a drop catch almost pushing the ball beyond the boundary line.

By all reports a great day was had by all, and many wonderful stories were exchanged by old and new friends.

Big-hearted investment

A REVOLUTIONARY new heart hospital left in limbo because of a funding shortfall will now be built, thanks to a $470 million state government commitment.

The 195-bed Victorian Heart Hospital — the first of its kind in Australia — will create a world-leading centre for patients and researchers.  But full plans will depend on winning the support of private donors and philanthropists. Monash University will contribute up to $70 million for the Heart Hospital while Monash Health will tip in about $11 million.

The Heart Hospital will replace the Baseball Diamond and existing Student Accommodation, this will mean the current Cricket Ground used by the cricket club will become fully synthetic soccer, and the club's only hope to stay on campus will be to have a wicket put back into Frearson Oval.

The club and the PPA will continue to lobby the University to keep cricket on the campus.

The Veterans game will be held on Sunday January 14th 2018 at Monash University Clayton on Turf against Mt. Waverley.   The match will start at 1pm.

If you would like to play, please e-mail Stephen Pearson president@gryphons.org.au or phone 0409 780 769.

Players must be 40 years of age or older to play.
