Merry Christmas from EchidnaCSI!
Many of you will be going away over Christmas, and for some, this involves long drives through rural areas. As a result, you may see more echidnas than usual!
We advise you to be on the lookout for echidnas, and encourage you to submit any scats you may come across.
Update: we have almost 900 submissions so far!
Thank you all so much.
Be on the lookout for roadkill
Being hit by cars is a leading cause of death for echidnas. While it is sad that so many echidnas are killed on the roads, you can help some good come out of the situation by reporting it to us. By identifying the roads that are most dangerous to echidnas we can implement new laws to help protect them. You can help by submitting photos through the app or BioCollect and when it asks for the 'State of the animal' select 'dead'. If in Adelaide, feel free to contact us and we may be able to collect the echidna, as tissue is always valuable for our research.
A quick reminder that registrations for the Australian Citizen Science Conference are open! The conference is not only for scientists, but also the citizens that make their research possible. Click here to find out more!
