Summer e-news

Hi <<First Name>>,

Summer has arrived and we’re well into the so called ‘silly season.’ Summer is the most Yang of the seasons and a time of increased vitality, openness and expansion. It's also traditionally the season of joy and good cheer. However, this period can be one of challenge; increased social commitments, work deadlines, feeling the loss of loved ones or financial pressures.

At this time of year, I see many clients who are exhausted, stressed out or simply struggling to cope. How are you travelling?

The end of the year is also a good time for reflection. Overall how has 2017 been for you? What's working and not working in your life? What patterns, thoughts or behaviours need revision or repair? You don’t need to wait until New Years Eve to start thinking about resolutions. In fact, it’s a good idea to start reflecting now. This will enable you to make some solid goals to work towards.

In Australia, the Summer Solstice falls this Friday 22nd December at 03:28 (AEDT). Also known as Midsummer and Litha, this is the longest day of the year and symbolically represents joy, abundance and harvest. It’s a good day to celebrate and appreciate the bounty of life and reflect on your achievements and successes.

In this e-news, you'll find:
  • Summer – the season of joy and expansion
  • Clinic news
  • Summer Moon Phases
If you feel like you need some extra support this season, I'm in clinic for one more week and there are still a few times available. Book your appointment online or call/text/email.

I’m taking a break from 24th December 2017 to 10th January 2018. My first day back in clinic will be Thursday 11th January 2018; thereafter, it’s business as usual!

Thank YOU for a wonderful year in clinic. I wish you all the best for a happy and stress-free festive season. See you next year!

Summer - the season of joy and expansion
“Summertime is always the best of what might be” – Charles Bowden

Summer is the most Yang (active, open) time of the year. The energy of the season is joy and expansion, so you’ll naturally feel more outgoing and energised.  In Chinese Medicine, Summer is associated with the Fire element and the Heart and Small Intestine channels. Fire:
  • Represents joy and is expressed as love, laughter and warmth
  • Regulates body temperature and the amount of fluid in the body (too much Fire dries up internal ‘waterways’)
  • In balance, the mind is calm and sleep is sound
  • Imbalanced, can be expressed as a lack of joy (depression) or an excess of joy (mania)

The festive season can be a time of challenge and stress; increased social commitments, work deadlines, feeling the loss of loved ones or financial pressures.

Metaphysically, the shoulders represent responsibility and how well you do (or don’t) manage them. Do your responsibilities feel like a burden? Do you feel weighed down by chores and jobs? Do you take on inappropriate responsibility for others' needs or emotions?  Constantly tight shoulders can indicate you’re not taking enough time for you and your self growth.

Balance is the key to thriving this season. You’ll naturally feel more energised and social at this time of year, but be conscious of not pushing to the point of burn out. Ask yourself:
  • Is the push to ‘get it done before Christmas’ real?
  • Do I need to spend a lot of money on presents to show I care? Can presence be a present?
  • How can I honour the memory of loved ones who aren’t here this festive season?
  • Can I opt out of the over-consumption (stuff/food/alcohol) of the season?
  • What are my non-negotiable self-care priorities to maintain? E.g. sleeping enough, eating well, saying no sometimes etc

Throughout Summer, make it your intention to maintain your self-care and balance activity with stillness and reflection time.

Be balanced and at your best this Summer, book a Summer Session!
