Introducing Plakbuster!
The World's First Oral Health Spray

Periogen is excited to introduce the world’s first oral health spray product, PlakBuster! “We are changing the way people look towards periodontal health and oral hygiene. Our proprietary plaque/calculus dissolution formula will be a true adjunct to toothbrushing by suppressing the mineralization of dental plaque in to calculus/build-up,” says John Anderson of Periogen. PlakBuster is made with common and proven safe food additives and essential oils. It does not contain alcohol, fluoride, titanium dioxide or Triclosan. It is recommended for those with orthodontic braces, implants and bridges.

Plaque can often form within hours of eating a snack or meal, and it may be difficult to brush in time. PlakBuster is convenient and can be used immediately after eating. PlakBuster is formulated, developed and tested by a dentist specialized in Periodontology & Oral Implantology with a central goal to provide the on-the-go way to combat plaque formation during the day, between brushings. All of the studies have shown that Periogen is extraordinarily effective, safe, and beneficial to oral health.

Science Corner: Silver Amalgam Fillings
Part 2

If your fillings are in good condition and there is no decay beneath the filling, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration does not recommend that you have your amalgam fillings removed or replaced. Removing sound amalgam fillings results in unnecessary loss of healthy tooth structure and exposes you to additional mercury vapor released during the removal process. However, if you believe you have an allergy or sensitivity to the mercury, silver, tin, or copper found in dental amalgams, you should discuss treatment options with your dentist.

Mercury vapor is released from silver fillings. But, whether amalgams themselves pose a real health risk is unknown. The number of fillings in the mouth, the age of the fillings, diet, the acid we put in the mouth through carbonated drinks, grinding of the teeth, all contribute to mercury leaching into the body. The highest amount of mercury exposure from silver fillings occurs when they are placed and when they are removed from our mouths. Don’t rush to the dentist to remove your fillings, but do have them examined to determine whether they are intact. Have a conversation with your dentist about the potential health risks of keeping and removing amalgams. If you are having a silver filling removed, make sure the dentist is using a dental rubber dam that isolates the tooth and minimizes the amount of mercury vapor released. We need stronger clinical studies to clearly understand the effect of continual release of mercury by amalgam fillings and the cumulative effect.
