It's here! Offscreen Issue 18 launched late last week! My shipper in Berlin is busy packaging and dispatching the hundreds of orders we received so far. 🙌

As most of you know, Offscreen is my full-time job. While I enjoy publishing this weekly newsletter, the print magazine is what consumes the bulk of my time and it's also what pays my bills. If you haven't bought a copy before, why not give it a try? I spend many hours researching, conducting, and editing the interviews in each issue of the magazine. I truly believe reading them in print provides a very different mind space to process the ideas and opinions presented. If you enjoy what Offscreen does and stands for, your purchase will support independent publishing and help me keep doing what I'm doing. 🙂

On that note, I'd like to thank you for all the support you've given me/Offscreen in 2017! It's been a pretty big year with a new design and a new website. Looking back, I'm frequently wondering how I manage to get it all done by myself, but then I look at the many supportive tweets and emails from you and I know how. 😉

This will be the last newsletter for this year. I'll be back with a new issue of the Dispatch on January 9th. In the meantime, enjoy your break, have a relaxing time with loved ones, and of course, enjoy reading issue 18 off screen. – Kai

Offscreen Magazine

Thoughts on ethics in tech & design

Self-promo (duh!): if you aren't a regular reader yet, you should definitely take look at the just-released issue 18 of Offscreen. I've conducted a lot of interviews over the years, but the ones in this issue left me with food for thought for days, if not weeks. You won't regret ordering a copy, I promise. 🙂

Pitch Deck

Pitch ridiculous startup ideas

Not sure how I missed this Kickstarter for a card game about horrible startup ideas: “Pitch Deck is a game where you and your friends make ridiculous, creative pitches for objectively bad startup ideas.”

A guide for small creative studios

A lovely book project coming out of Australia: “Run Studio Run is a book that details how to manage and grow a small creative studio.” Now seeking funding on Kickstarter.

The Tigers Come at Night

This is one of the most sensible and realistic suggestions for making Twitter a kinder, more human place: mark bot accounts as such and remove them from statistics. Worth a read!

The vexing and difficult art of holding opposing views

This short piece by Khe Hy really spoke to me. How can we navigate the many dualities we're facing every day? (Example: Delayed gratification vs. living in the moment) Khe doesn't offer answers, but I feel addressing the fact that others struggle with the same issue gives me peace of mind.
