The Future of Our History
Dear Friend –
Since re-opening at 6500 N. Clark, we have accomplished a lot. Our volunteer staff, one of the largest and most professional we ever have had, has undertaken a wide variety of projects including organizing and storing our holdings for greater efficiency and accessibility. They did this while they were also helping researchers, students, and recreational readers find items related to their interests.
In addition to this work, we have expanded fulfilling our mission of collecting, preserving and making accessible Midwest LGBTQ history and culture by increasing the number and rotation of our exhibitions, including four rotating exhibitions and two standing exhibitions. If you haven't visited us recently, I invite you to come see the exhibits, check out a book or explore the archives. I know you'll have fun and be amazed by what you discover.
In January of this year, with a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, experts from the Northeast Document Conservation Center made a two-day assessment visit and were impressed by what we have accomplished since their pre-assessment visit 3 years ago. These accomplishments were the result of our volunteer staff doing things. However, we need more than people to do things. We need the funding to buy the essentials to properly store, preserve and make the collections that have been entrusted to us accessible to researchers, students, and everyone else who is interested in LGBTQ history and culture.
