April Lunch Meeting

Topic: Heat Reclaim in CHW Systems
Date: Thursday, April 14th
Time: 12:00 noon - 1:30pm

Henry Heat Recovery can be an effective method of reducing energy consumption by capturing heat generated through the cooling process that would otherwise be wasted. This presentation will cover how to identify opportunities for heat recovery, how to configure a central plant utilizing heat recovery, example real world projects, how heat recovery can be misapplied, and how to perform a cost analysis to determine the economic feasibility of this technique for specific projects.

Henry has over 31 years experience within the HVAC systems engineering business including system design, product marketing, business management, software system application, and business development for major commercial customers. In his most recent assignment, Henry is Carrier's Commercial Sales General Manager and is responsible for sales of commercial system solutions in the West Coast. He is responsible for educating consulting engineers, design-build contractors, facility owner/operators and utility representatives on the appropriate application of high efficiency HVAC systems for high performing buildings and has assisted customers in achieving energy savings solutions.

2011 Golf Tournament

Golf We are looking for sponsors, players, and prizes for our 2011 golf tournament. Though the tournament has raised a lot of money for scholarships over the years you may not realize the different needs of the Tucson HVAC community that have also been funded through the golf tournaments. Proceeds from the 2010 Golf Tournament funded the $6,000 needed to teach the 2010 spring semester HVAC course at the U of A.

With this year's tournament we are aiming to fund student scholarships and ASHRAE Research Promotions. If you are interested in participating as a player or sponsor please fill out and return the golf tournament registration form. As you'll see on the registration form there are already sponsors signed up for the tournament. Sponsoring early lets everyone see that you are sponsoring throughout the year instead of only the month or two prior to the tournament.

Do Clothes Make the Man Hotter or Cooler?

ATLANTA – The role of international fashions in determining how cool or hot we are is being studied by ASHRAE. It’s not the impact of Gucci or Chanel on our style but rather how non-western wear, such as burqas or saris, affects our thermal comfort.

Comprehensive data exists on western clothing insulation values but little research exists on non-western. Having information on attire like saris could influence the design of ventilation and air-conditioning systems to provide the best thermal comfort for occupants.
