Dung Gee
The true beginning
of the new year

Welcome to the year of the Earth Dog.
The winter solstice (dung gee in Chinese) is the natural start of new year, as the Earth completes the yearlong cycle around the sun. From this point in time, the yang chi starts to rise. This is a time of year that has traditionally been celebrated.

Follow the nature

The winter solstice is one of the most significant energetic points within the year. It is also one the 24 solar terms of chi. It marks the start of fresh new energy and the beginning of the new yearly cycle. For Chue Style, this is the starting point of the new year, as we always follow the nature.

As the Earth is further away from the sun in the Northern Hemisphere, we are experiencing winter and the strongest element is Water. Our nature is sleeping, the nights are long and this is the time to rest and reflect.

Many cultures recognise the winter solstice as the rebirth, which involve holidays, festivals and celebrations. After the longest night of the year, the energy starts to rise up again. This is also the reason behind decorating houses and cities with lights, as they are a symbol of hope, joy and warmth. In Feng Shui, lights represent the fire element. These bright lights are much needed during the winter time.

2018 - Earth Dog year

On the 22nd December 2017 the year of the Rooster hands its leadership over to the Dog. This is the true start of the year. It is not to be mistaken with Chinese New Year, which is a celebration of the new year and a national holiday, which is also called the Spring festival. Most people believe the Chinese New Year begins the new year with the Spring festival (on 16th February 2018). However, the new energy of the year already started on the day of the winter solstice.

The Dog is a very good friend to the human, being honest and loyal. Dogs are very brave creatures who are willing to protect their owners with their own lives. They are also very spiritual and sensitive to energy.

The Earth Dog is one of 5 types of dogs within Feng Shui and Chinese astrology. The character of the Earth Dog is very dependant and trustworthy. There are dogs that herd sheep, both protecting and leading the herd. There are dogs that are slower than other dogs. However, all dogs can respond very quickly when challenged. Dogs also love nature and freedom. Living in a city can make them feel uncomfortable.

According to the “Chee Ba” method or "Purple and White" method, commonly known as the Flying Stars method, the year ahead is bringing some excitement and challenges.

The Centre or the Tai Chi location is quite strong with double fire star number 9, meaning the core is good.

Most of the locations (7 out of 9) are crushing or being drained, showing that the energy is going to be difficult to handle. We can expect sudden changes, arguments and tiredness.

The North sector has sickness energy with double star number 5 and the West has "female stress" energy with double star number 2. These two positions are not good for a bedroom in any house during 2018.

The Northwest sector is governed by auspicious stars especially during the month of September when we get a combination of 6-1-8 money stars. If your house has a door in the Northwest, the money energy could enter your house during that month.

Feng shui tips
  • Add more of the fire element to your surroundings during winter and times of celebration. Use candles, lights, real fires in a fireplace and bright colours, especially reds when decorating your home. Activate yang energy in your house by having celebrations, family gatherings, baking and organising children's parties.
  • It is not auspicious if a fireplace or cooker can be seen from the main door. This can affect the health of the occupants and increases the chance of accidents. The fire element is associated with the heart. Therefore, the fireplace and the cooker, being the fire element, represent the heart of the home and need to be protected.
