REFLECTIONS FROM EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT FOR 2017


The Durban University of Technology closes its doors for the December vacation on Friday, 15 December 2017 and reopens for the first semester of the new year on Wednesday, 3 January 2018. Some members of DUT’s Executive Management team reflected on 2017 and looked ahead to the new academic year. Professor Nomthandazo Gwele, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching and Learning; Professor Sibusiso Moyo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Engagement; and Professor Thenjiwe Meyiwa, DUT’s Registrar, passed on their well wishes and gratitude to the University community.

DUT CELEBRATES EXCELLENCE AT THE 2017 ANNUAL RESEARCH AND INNOVATION AWARDS

The 2017 Annual Research and Innovation Awards (ARIA) ceremony celebrates excellence in both research and innovation based on 2016 Research and Innovation output. It is an annual event widely anticipated by the DUT researchers and postgraduate students.

The guest speaker for the evening was the Director General of the Department of Science and Technology, Dr Phil Mjwara. In addition the event was attended by VIP guests, viz: US Consul General Ms Sherry Zalika Sykes, Judge Vuka Tshabalala, Chancellor of the DUT and Dr Mahmoud Youssef Baker, Chairman of the IQRAA Trust, Executive Deans, Deputy Deans and DUT staff and students.

SHOZI’S POSITIVE IMPACT EARNS HIM A “NO LIMITS AWARD”.

Although he had to endure some daunting challenges in his life, the Durban University of Technology Alumnus Mfundo Shozi continues to shine.

The ambitious Shozi has added another accolade to his list of achievements by winning the ‘No Limits Award’ during the First Annual Great Impact Awards ceremony. The esteem award was bestowed on him on the 2nd of December 2017 at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli Convention Centre (ICC). The award is given to an individual who has contributed immensely in the society’s progress despite facing challenges of their own.

DUT SPORTS RECORDS MASSIVE SUCCESSES FOR 2017

The Durban University of Technology’s Midlands and Durban campuses recorded massive successes in the sports arena during the 2017 academic year.

The netball team clinched the KZN University Sports South Africa (USSA) League by unleashing a reign of terror to all its opponents. DUT thumped other fierce campaigners in the region such as UKZN and emerged victorious. They were notable players in the seven teams’ tournament who carried DUT’s hopes on their shoulders such as Amanda Ntshangase and Nomcebo Nkosi.
