From the Pastor...

Last week, we discussed that Advent is the preparation for the arrival of Jesus Christ — born unto us. We were challenged to make room for God among us by getting rid of the clutter and by cleaning up the clutter in our lives. It is so easy to fall into the trap of business and clutter…leaving very little room for God in our hearts and in our minds.

Think about your calendar for a moment. How many times have you put another appointment ahead of attending worship or participating in a Sunday school class? How many times has your busy schedule prevented you from being there for a hurting friend or from pulling over to help a stranger in need?

But these are the kind of things that Christmas classics like A Christmas Carol or It’s A Wonderful Life try to teach us. We can throw our lives away in the pursuit of ever more. Or we can find our lives in the pursuit of serving more. We can give our lives to something and someone greater, but it will mean taking the focus away from our own needs and desires.

Last Sunday, Angela implored us to rediscover the child within. She asked us to reconnect with that innocent and idealistic young person we once were and to believe that with God all things are possible. And it is true. All things are possible. Even unplugging from the hustle and bustle while we obtain that classic Christmas spirit of being generous to stranger and friend.

May you find the child within!
