Presidents Report

It feels like the season has just started and now we are getting into the Christmas period.
Our Junior numbers are looking good with a 10% increase.
The Carnival at Coogee was well attended with strong performances from our Junior members.
I’m sure the Christmas breakup this week will be a great day.
Patrols are running well.
It is important to that all members fulfill their Patrol commitments so please make sure that you attend your patrols and allow enough time to set up and clean up.
For competitors remember your 16 hours patrol requirements.
Competition is now in full swing, with 2 Carnivals and 1 Surf League competition.
We have had some outstanding results which will build to the State and Aussie Titles.
Attendance on Friday Night has been falling and the Board has decided to open monthly in the New Year.
At this stage the Bar will be open weekly until December 22nd. We are still reviewing catering options for the 22nd and will advise when arrangements are finalized. The draw is now $500. Remember the draw is at 7pm. If you’re not there you don’t get the money.
A reminder that the gym is undergoing an upgrade. Over the next few months there is likely to be some interruption, with old equipment being sold and new equipment being installed. We ask for members patience during this period.
The Tower to Tower event has been cancelled.
Unfortunately, entry numbers were low and combined with the poor weather forecast the decision was made not to proceed. Thanks to Jackie and her team for the all of their work.
I hope you all have a great Christmas break and a healthy and prosperous New Year.

President

Youth update

Well the first half of the season is almost over. A revised Sunday morning program will be posted on the hallway near change rooms and in Islander. It has come to my attention that some members are not reading the Facebook notices which is supposed to be a main form of communication other than the Islander. Please try to check the Trigg Youth and Competition face book notices as latest updates are posted in this manner.

Congratulations to youth and open members who have made the State and Development teams. Open team competing in Moana South Australia on Jan 19, 2018 are: Ben Jones, Dan Humble, Ceris Graham, Ruby Warne, Macarah Mallis, and Madeline Thomson. Good luck to you all representing Trigg and WA.
Youth Development team comprises Trigg members: Rob Innocent as one of the managers, Patrick Eley, Jazmin Shipway Carr, Max Hunter, Will Savage, Nikita Fredonnet and Sascha Innocent. Good luck to all in Freshwater and Manley carnivals on 26-27 January 2018.

With two carnivals completed Trigg has shown some very pleasing results. Next Senior Carnival is on 14th January 2018 at Swanbourne. Ensure you get there early about 7 am to get parking, assist in putting up tent, creamed up and a good warm up. U14-15’s have board race, surf race, ironperson, cameron relay combined ages. U17-19’s surf race, ironperson, ski race, board race. There are also flags, sprints and beach relay for all ages.

Remember to complete hours required for competing by 31st December. You can make up patrols prior to then by doing a voluntary patrol.

Due to lightning strikes the day of the Around the Island Challenge it was cancelled due to the beach being closed, but the BBQ went ahead with those who attended. The event will try to be rescheduled for Sunday 24th December commencing 10am straight after normal club swim. Please try to make up teams of 8. If we cannot make the full event we will still try to run a team oriented event with those members who are in attendance. Movie tickets up for prizes. One swimmer, one long boarder, one junior boarder, one longer run, a two person rugby pass run, a scooter or skateboard and finishing with a ski paddler. This event is open to all members who attend on Sundays not just youth so how about some of the masters forming a team or paddling a ski to make youth teams feasible for the U14’s and 15’s who do not paddle skis. Teams will be made up on the day so be prepared to have some combined fun for members of all ages. Junior members can join in junior board, or the run or scooter/skateboard components.

I would like to make special thanks to Steve Glossop for being ready to set our course for last week’s event and to Tyson’s dad who assisted in the bbq.

This Sunday is last chance for wet requal, so get down to get it finished. Then normal club events. Boxing Day we will hold the Club Marathon. See attached details in Islander. See you on the beach.

Jen.

Tower to Tower Ocean Classic
Due to prevailing weather conditions and in the interest of maintaining the health, safety and wellbeing of all registered participants we have made the decision to cancel this year’s Tower to Tower Ocean Classic. At the time of writing this communication there is currently a 1.5/1.7meter swell and 20 -36 km west-south-westerly winds forecast. If we were to adopt a wait and see approach and there is no change or worsening of conditions resulting in the event being cancelled on the morning, participants would not be entitled to a refund. In the interests of fairness by cancelling it early we are able to give a full refund (minus 30c booking fee) through the booking system.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter and I wish to thank those on the committee who volunteered their time and knowledge so generously in supporting this event which we were all hoping would be a major fundraiser for the club.

Any queries please call or text me on 0413363932.

On December 26, 2017 Trigg will hold the annual club marathon. The event will start 9.30am with a 200m swim, followed by a run up and around the tower on the path, then 200m swim, run half way to Scarborough then swim 200m and return run with final 200m swim. This event can be done individually or in teams. It will be a handicapped event and as it is a trophy event the participant (individual) must have completed three club swims to be eligible for the trophy.

Assistance is required from 9am to set up the start and Scarborough changeover flag with supplies of water and ice in case of stingers together with usual first aid, oxy viva and defib. We will need someone with ARTC award to man this position in case of first aid needed to be supplied. We will also need two IRBs to cover water safety at both swim points. Patrolling members on the day will need to get permission from patrol captain to compete to ensure the beach is adequately covered in patrolling members.
