Serena Dream Initiative
The Dream Team, with the help of Supports at COR, was able to fund-raise enough money to send one of our own to Edmonton for a weekend of shopping, fun, and most importantly, memory making! This was not an easy task, but through meaningful support driven initiatives and a commitment made by the recipient to save $5/week, we were able to get this idea off the ground and soaring in its first year!

Jim Temple, Associate Executive Director

Jim Temple, Associate Executive Director

Hi! My name is Jim and I’m the Associate Executive Director here at COR. I like to consider myself an OG since I have been at COR since its inception in 2009. It's been amazing to watch COR grow. When I started we had about 15 employees... now we have over 180!

I love my job and coming into work every day. Most of my time is spent at the office trying to help ensure things run smoothly in all facets of the organization and troubleshooting any struggles people may have. I don’t get out to our COR homes as much as I would like, so I love it when people come to visit me at work (please don’t be afraid of the office, I hope we’re not scary).

If you don’t know me very well, I think of myself as just a regular dude who doesn’t take myself too seriously. I love to laugh and have fun. The work we do can be challenging at times and I think it’s important to enjoy ourselves. If you are ever unsure if I’m joking or not, I can assure you that I am.

I care about each and every person connected to COR and I want to get to know everyone and help in any way I can. I know I may seem very busy at times, but if you ever want to talk about anything, just pop by my office. I’ll even let you take me out for a coffee! I’m really into Starbucks Caramel Macchiatos, but make it skinny because Ben Morris tells me I need to be on a diet.

I’m a huge sports fan. I enjoy all sports; but I particularly love the Toronto Blue Jays and Green Bay Packers. Also, if you are interested and have a few hours I can tell you the tale of how I won the 2017 COR Fantasy Football Championship.

In my spare time I like to relax and watch Netflix. I love gangster movies such as The Godfather and Good Fellas. I also love anything directed by Quentin Tarantino. One of my favourite actors is Leonardo DiCaprio. I’m a fan of anything post Titanic (sorry ladies).

I am currently pursuing my Master’s in Leadership at Royal Roads University and am always trying to make myself a better person and employee. I love to work with and be around people who are motivated, passionate, dedicated and positive! I like to think of COR as my extended family and it’s the people I work with who make this job so great! Whether we’ve been acquainted for years or if we have only recently just met, I would love to learn more about you and get to know you better! Hope to connect with you soon!

SHSAtv Presents: ‘The First Steps to Mental Health in the Workplace'

COR is proud to have been featured in a recent SHSA video on Mental Health in the Workplace; in the video, Rory, Mandy and Kristyn speak of the importance of a culture of safety and COR's efforts to improve our Safety Management System.

The Journey of Inclusion
A number of local organizations (including COR) collaborated in the development of a video project to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), as proclaimed by the United Nations annually on December 3rd. The project created a video highlighting The Journey of Inclusion.

Over the last several years the disability movement has both reflected—and, hopefully, inspired—change. Throughout our history, there were few opportunities for people with disabilities in terms of social inclusion, accessibility and human rights. Now, the bar is continuously being raised in all of these areas.

Meet four people who are an integral part of changing the world for people with disabilities, their families and ultimately our communities. These are their stories….
