BC AHSN appoints Data Director

Save the date: N2 webinar January 11
If you haven’t registered yet for access to N2 Network of Networks, here’s your chance to learn about the wealth of online tools and content available to support your clinical research work. Our N2 webinar on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. will provide an overview of the resources available and suggested ways to access them.
Clinical Trials BC’s provincial membership with N2 Network of Networks supports capacity building for clinical trials expertise. Funded through the BC SUPPORT Unit’s Training & Capacity Development initiative, the provincial membership offers access to valuable resources for BC-based clinical researchers such as CITI Canada’s updated Good Clinical Practice (GCP) course, which reflects new international regulations coming April 1, 2018.
Webinar details will be provided in January.
BC AHSN to sponsor CHSPR conference participants
BC AHSN has confirmed its support as a participant sponsor for next year’s policy conference hosted by UBC’s Centre for Health Services and Policy Research (CHSPR). Titled The System Awakens: Building Learning Healthcare Systems in Canada, CHSPR’s 2018 conference will help create common language and understanding around learning health systems, in which research influences practice and practice influences research.
BC AHSN sponsorship will fund 20 participants working in BC’s health system to attend the conference. The objective of this sponsorship is to contribute to the development of a community of providers, decision makers and policy makers who are interested in working together to achieve learning health system objectives.
Details will be available in the new year on how to apply for a BC AHSN-sponsored spot at the CHSPR conference.
Provincial conference brings community together
BC AHSN would like to acknowledge the enthusiastic response to the BC SUPPORT Unit's inaugural provincial conference on November 9th in Vancouver. A total of 292 people attended Putting Patients First: Partnerships for Better Health Research, representing patients interested in patient-oriented research (POR), health researchers, health care providers and health care decision makers.
A full day of programming enabled participants to experience and share diverse perspectives about POR and collaboratively help shape and strengthen the provincial patient-oriented research network in BC.
Many participants voiced their experiences on social media, which resulted in the conference’s #PPF17 hashtag trending in Vancouver and ranking as the third most popular in Canada during the conference's morning sessions. "It has taken me a while to find my people in BC. But today I found a whole room of them," tweeted Skye Barbic, Assistant Professor in the UBC Department of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy.
Special thanks go to the BC SUPPORT Unit’s funders, including the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, the British Columbia Ministry of Health, and the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research, partners, stakeholders and all attendees for their part in making the BC SUPPORT Unit’s inaugural conference a success.

BC Emergency Medicine Network in full swing
The BC Emergency Medicine Network is a provincial initiative supported by the BC AHSN organization to improve emergency care in British Columbia by supporting and connecting emergency practitioners across BC. Following its official launch in mid-September, the Network has already seen more than 406 physician members from around the province register on its new web platform.
This fall has been a time of active engagement with emergency practitioners, Network members and partners. The Network has participated in the annual St. Paul’s Emergency Medicine Update Conference and the BC SUPPORT Unit conference, and presented to the BC AHSN board and the Rural Coordinating Centre of BC Executive. The Network will soon be launching a new committee for its Clinical Resources program and adding two new patient partners to the team.
The strength of the BC Emergency Medicine Network lies in the engagement and contributions of emergency practitioners in all communities in BC, and the new year promises a continued focus on growing and listening to the needs of the EM community. For further information on the Network, please contact Jim Christenson, Network Executive Lead at jim@bcemergencynetwork.ca.
