A tale I heard

Former Spice Girl member Mel B discussing how the band members' famous monikers came about:

“It was actually a lazy journalist who couldn’t be bothered to remember all our names, so he just gave us nicknames. And we were like ‘Oh, well that kind of works. I don’t mind my name, do you like your name Baby, Posh…?’ we were like ‘Let’s just go with it!’ So we just rolled with it and it worked out. I’m very, kind of, in your face and was even more so back then. I was 17, 18, like: ‘WHAT?! WHAT D’YOU WANT?!’ So I guess I could have come off as scary... I like my name.”

A tale I wrote

“WHO ARE YA?! WHO ARE YA?!”

Vinnie chuckled as his team’s fans jeered the opposition.

“WHO ARE YA?! WHO ARE YA?!”

He loved how they all knew when to start and when to stop and how they never missed a beat.

“WHO ARE YA?! WHO ARE YA?!”

The guy next to Vinnie was looking right at him as he chanted.

“WHO ARE YA?! WHO ARE YA?!”

A couple more in his immediate vicinity began staring at him. Vinnie started to sweat.

“WHO ARE YA?! WHO ARE YA?!”

Gradually, row-by-row, all 65,000 fans pointed at Vinnie as they barked their question.

“WHO ARE YA?! WHO ARE YA?!”

Vinnie sat down.

I’m gonna have to think about this one, he thought.
