Happy New Year - Time to renew your Subscription

We wish everyone a Happy New Year and hope that 2018 brings fair winds and many happy hours of sailing.

If you want your sailing to be at Papercourt, now is the time to renew your subscription.  Don't forget to check your email inbox and if necessary your spam box for your membership renewal notice which will have come from membership@mg.papercourt-sc.org.uk - then take advantage of the early settlement discount of 10% if you pay before 15th January.

If any of your details are wrong on the invoice, or if you have any other queries, please email membership@papercourt-sc.org.uk as soon as possible.  As well as the early discount, paying now will stop you receiving chasing emails automatically from the membership system, and also save our hardworking membership secretary, Judith, a lot of heartache.

Please note that if you have already advised Judith that you will not be renewing, this is the last newsletter you will be receiving.

Oppies in the Icebox

Ice Box Series - First Footer Sailing and Social

Those hardy Optimists have been making a great showing in the Ice Box Series, despite the cold weather - last chance for points in this series tomorrow - 1st January.

If you haven't done the other two days you could always take your first sail of the year in the First Footer - a fun one day series, or you could just come for a drink, and bring your friends family and Christmas leftovers for a bring and share lunch as a convivial way to start the New Year.

Everyone is welcome and we look forward to seeing you.

Comms from the Commodore

I would like to wish all our members a Happy New Year.  I am looking forward to 2018 being a year where we continue to take Papercourt forward and provide good sailing and excellent training for all our members from young to not so young.

Weed

New Weed Control Group

The Committee takes our sailing very seriously, and we recognise that this year, along with many other lakes, there was significant weed growth.
I am heading up a small team of experienced and informed members and we will work with Natural England and other relevant authorities to find a way of addressing the weed growth issues so that we can continue enjoying sailing on our lake.

Please be assured that all options are being looked into as a matter of priority and I will keep you updated as we progress.

Fraser Hayden, Commodore

Winter Series - 7th January to 25th March

With the new year comes the Winter Sailing Series.  20 races to include the Sunday Pursuit and General Handicap races, with the best 9 to count.  You can't win trophies unless you go sailing, so dust off your winter wear and get out there.

Bloody Mary Cancelled but the King George Gallop trots in as replacement - Saturday 6th

King George stands in for Queen Mary - replacement event for GJW Direct SailJuice Winter Series #5

Thanks to some speedy action by King George Sailing Club, the King George Gallop steps in as a temporary replacement event for the Bloody Mary in the GJW Direct SailJuice Winter Series. Following the reluctant but necessary cancellation of the Bloody Mary due to low water levels at Queen Mary Sailing Club, King George Sailing Club in North London is to host a replacement event on 6 January 2018. The newly-titled King George Gallop, named after the famous horse race the King George VI Chase, becomes a temporary replacement for the Bloody Mary in the GJW Direct SailJuice Winter Series. Those who had already entered the Bloody Mary will be automatically transferred to the King George Gallop, limited entry - enter now.
