2017 year-end

At least 34 people are missing, this year-end, in Honduras

2017 ends as it began, with courageous, honest people in Honduras and Guatemala (let alone in numerous exploited countries of the global south) working and struggling to defend community well-being, local water-sheds and the environment, and individual and collective rights; struggling to oust undemocratic, repressive and corrupt regimes and achieve a return to real democracy and rule of law.

This is no small challenge.  Particularly when the regimes in power in Honduras and Guatemala are enabled and empowered by the “international community” in general, and particularly by the U.S. and Canadian governments, the U.S. military, and a host of global companies and investors.

Simply put: These regimes would not be in power, but for their economic and military relations with their international partners.  The global nation-state system is an unjust global class system of sorts.  As our partner groups in Guatemala and Honduras work to end exploitation, racism, discrimination and repression, glued together by corruption and impunity inside their borders, we work with them to end how the “international community” (governments, companies, investors and the U.S. military) enable and empower the regimes and elites in power.

Over 34 Hondurans have been killed protesting (since November 26) the electoral fraud perpetrated by the repressive U.S. and Canadian-backed regime in power.
