Embroidery and Other Skills

In December, we transferred some embroidery patterns on white fabric squares to be embroidered and included in baby quilts. If you'd like to be part of this, let Wanda Singer know.

We'll continue to use Theme Thursdays to teach new skills and cut/kit items such as tote bags, booties and diaper shirts. If you have a suggestion, or something you'd like to learn, we'd like to hear about it!

Valentine's Day

Now that we've delivered all the beautiful quilts made with Christmas fabric, it is time to look ahead to the next holiday! If you have any red or pink, or heart fabrics you'd like to make up for Valentine's Day, they'll need to go to the hospital in our February delivery, so they need to be in progress already!

If you missed out on Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day and Easter are just around the corner. Or quilt tops from regular fabrics are always appreciated!

Year at a Glance

We were fortunate to receive many generous donations and grants in 2017, held successful fundraisers and clothing drives, and recruited some new volunteers. With the help of our satellite groups, we were able to use the materials, clothing and funds donated to provide roughly 50,000 items (exact totals are still being gathered and will be in a later newsletter).

Two large fabric donations of panels and juvenile fabrics helped us make a lot of wonderful quilts this year. Used toddler clothing passed on from the CAP program were distributed to our agencies.

We could not have filled our 400 Christmas bags without clothing drives held at the Coppell Senior Center, Coppell Women's Club,  St. Stephens UMC in Mesquite, The Flower Mound Methodist Church, and The Knights of Columbus at St. Phillips the Apostle Catholic Church. Each bag included a sleeper, hat, socks or booties, receiving blanket, bib, burp cloth and beanie baby. Marg Vissers made the Christmas bags and the KnitWits made the burp cloths and bibs. Too many wonderful volunteers serge receiving blankets, and make hats and booties to name them all, but each item is appreciated!

We're already looking ahead to 2018 and Kay Stephenson has donated 177 beanie babies to get us started. Watch for post-Christmas sleeper sales--there are usually good bargains to be found in the New Year.

Let There Be Beds

Starting this January, Nancy Bloomfield will be tracking delivery of dog and cat beds for Love Thy Pet. In 2017, we extended our support to several rescue groups, starting with Dallas Dog RR Rescue, to help with the many dogs they had transported from a Houston shelter going under water. Epic Rescue and Cane Russo Rescue also received beds. As well as running one of our favorite Carrollton restaurants, the good folks at Cane Russo house their rescues in a building owned by our storage benefactors Stan and Michelle LaFountain.
