Three Things

December 2017

Hello Dear Friend! Thank you for your continued support and reading this newsletter throughout the year. I spent the last half of this month in my birthplace of Oahu, Hawaii. It was pretty rainy here the first couple of days but is now gorgeous and sunny. Maybe the perfect analogy for this year, it started off a little funky and overcast but ended really strong.

Also congrats to Birkley and Josh on the newest addition to their little family! They welcomed Davis Darren (still working on it) Stark early Friday morning on 12/29. Can't wait to meet the lil guy.

Once again thanks for rockin wit ya boy and I'll see you in the new year! 😘

Remember to send me your photos of what you did this month!

Your Things

Carly, Alaska
We made a sauna on wheels so we can sauna wherever we want. We drove it to a beach and fired it up for the first time. It was magical. We sweated.
Antonia, California
I was in SJ at my sister’s this year. Here are 2/1274383 nieces. We haven’t seen each other in a few months so they followed me around the entire night like this.

Things I ate

🍳 Shakshuka

Whilst in San Diego—after yoga of course—I made the girls Shakshuka, the interactive Israeli dish. It’s a simple dish but always looks straight gorgeous.

😛 The Progress

Michael took me to The Progress to celebrate a work accomplishment (which he never does). This place was so good! We started off with this scallop tartare which was tossed in this soy sauce and ponzu mixture, amazing. Then we moved on to a octopus on these beautiful butterbeans, also why does octopus pair so well with citrus (if you know slide into my inbox). Finally we ended with a extraordinary presentation of a half duck, cooked to perfection.

Such a great meal. Thanks Mike and congrats again!

🎄 Christmas Dinner

My Mother always goes above and beyond for Christmas dinner. She makes sure to include everyone’s dietary restrictions and plans out fun christmas themed games for after dinner. This year she single handedly made:

Appetizers
Crab Cakes
Carrot Fries (v)

Mains
Prime Rib
Teriyaki Tofu

Sides
Zucchini Cakes
Sous Vide Shrimp
Yorkshire Pudding
Mashed Potatoes

It was a wonderful meal! As always the Johnson’s and Brown’s joined the event. The Johnson’s taking home most of the prizes from the games. Thanks Mom for the most joyous evening!

Things I saw

🎥 Alamo Drafthouse

Our fave foodie couple, Matt and Maia, planned a nice evening to hangout as a group before everyone dispersed for the holidays. We went to Alamo Drafthouse for comfy seats, dinner service, and to see Three Billboards Outside of Ebbing, Missouri. The movie itself was super interesting, you didn’t really know where the story was going but I kind of liked that. It was a very nice night with some very nice people.

👇 Cookie Party Things

We have our annual cookie party at the Johnson Family compound. We got a later start than usual which forced us to come up with an ‘ok’ theme of: Feliz Navidad. But over a weekend we had some time to think about it a bit more and it came to us, a Stranger Things theme: COOKIE PARTY THINGS. We started updating our Instagram and with the help of my co-worker, Emily, we had the site up within 7 days!

johnsonfamilycookieparty.com

The party was amazing! People really got into it, especially when decorating cookies. Nate and HJ set up the lights-alphabet wall from the show and it was the perfect backdrop to some amazing photos.

🌊 Russ

My mom bought my sister tickets to see Russ for Christmas. Apparently, my sister is a teenager or something, and has friends or something, and she got tickets that were closer to the stage or something. So I ended up with the tickets and I took Sophia (or something).

After Russ we went to District to pre-celebrate Sophia's birthday!

Places I Went

❄️ Holiday

Sophia came up to join me at my company’s holiday party. It was casino themed and upon entry we received $1,000 in chips to play at roulette, black jack, and craps. We lost everything but we learned a few things:
1. We're both terrible at gambling
2. She's less terrible at gambling
3. We take pretty cute photo booth pics

Chubby Noodles

This brunch place has it all: noodles, Drake, and mimosas with ducks in them. Paige, Alakai, and Alan joined Sophia and I for a little Saturday brunch hang before going to the holiday party. Also Sophia went to the bathroom like twice, which to Alan thought was a lot, so he came up with the nickname SoPEEah and he thinks its the funniest thing so I thought I’d share it here.
