Canada Challenge Update:

We have a date!!
Depart: Vancouver Saturday 15 July 2018

Nat (crew member) has booked our team into an Airbnb house in Vancouver, Canada. Dan (crew member) has booked his flights already. We have our sixth and final team member (well 7th if you count me) Michael from the U.S.A who will be our closest thing to anything Canadian. Even though the US and Canada are obviously different countries, I imagine he will get a few comments like “which way do we go Mike left or right”, “you’re from around here aren’t you?”, “Don’t you know anything?”.

Six and a half months is a long way off still but if I think back to what I was doing 6 months ago…it is awfully close!

The first quarter of 2018 (January to March) will see me step up training just a little. Trying to aim for more the 300 km per week with the odd longer ride thrown in. Nothing big, but enough get the body ready for real training which will happen three months out. Keeps the mind fresh. Six months is too long to train for anything.

But January will also see us put our house on the market. Yep, selling the house, the car. Anything that doesn’t fit into a bus. Come March / April 2018 my little family will be embracing the gypsy life for a while. Honestly 2017 sucked. I stretched myself way too far with work and made some pretty dumb decisions which caused a lot of unnecessary stress. So we are going to pursue a more simple lifestyle for a while and get back to having time for what counts in life. And be in the headspace to enjoy that. But also look at how we do things differently in some of the areas I am passionate about, which caused part of the stress... building charity homes. Anyways…

If anybody would like to join me in giving away everything they have, nothing like a New Year’s resolution to make it happen.

After living through 2017 I know as fact, a simpler life is a more enjoyable and generous life.

Simplicity Challenge 2.0

The plan is for 1000 people to raise over $100,000 (that's just $100 each) from this ride, not from your donations, but from what you give up in order to donate. Register for the Simple. Generous. Life study or pledge an amount which you will work towards by the end of June 2018. For example you might pledge $150 and in order to reach that target you have to give up $150 worth of non-essentials by 30 June 2018 and then DONATE that amount to this cause. We'll give you plenty of suggestions and tips along the way.

Simplicity Challenge Ideas

1. At Christmas
(and always)

Some good reminders to shift the way we think about Christmas and the pressures of life, in general.
2. Wash your own Car

Why pay someone else (or a machine) to wash your car. DIY to save money and get a bit of exercise at the same time. Win-Win.

3. Check the insurance
"A lazy renewal on my car insurance almost cost me $150 more than necessary. Just by phoning the company, with a comparison quote, they offered me a much better price."
