Poetry both Playful and Perilous

Full disclosure:  I am not a poet.

However, when I started to re-make my web shop this past year, I chafed at the idea of writing run-of-the-mill descriptions for prints, postcards, etc.  After all, art shouldn't be described by mundanity.  Art should be portrayed by art.  Or, failing that, by appropriate oddness.  Which evolved into a kind of poetry(?).

Here are a few of my favorites.  Can you guess which of my artworks they illuminate?

The breeze is gentle.
It would go unnoticed, if not for the barely perceptible tickle as it makes the hair on your neck sway and dance.
It is a hurricane.
A million ideas from a thousand sources hurtle through your mind, distill, congeal, evolve.
Here.  Here is something new.

Fire and claws, shimmering scales rippling over sinewy muscle, terrible in their magnificence.
Fragile and impermanent, having come untethered from its branch, the cherry blossom glides softly on the wind.
The dragon's roar may be muffled by the whisper of a blossom touching earth.

The eery woods.  The living stone.  The creaking trees.  The shuffling feet.  The clinging throng. The knowledge shared. The vital glow. The common essence. The discreet glances. The undulating rainbow.

Wisdom Seeker • Relics 2

Recent Work.  This past year, inspired by some drastic changes in my life alongside the ever growing weirdness of the observable world, I dove into a new series I call Relics.

These pieces are explorations of both theme and form.  Relics can bring to mind nostalgia and antiquity, solid physicality and lofty religion, the dead past or an eternally living connection to the spiritual.  I'm poking at these ideas with geometric shapes, both simple and complicated, carved into elemental white, coated in rhythmic patterns.

Happy New Year!

Here's wishing everyone a year (and a lifetime) full of joy, imagination, & creativity.
The Best of All Things in 2018!
