CTSI Announces Research Centers in
Minority Institutions Scholarly Exchange
The University of Rochester Clinical Translational Science Institute (CTSI) announces a funding opportunity to promote inter-institutional research collaboration between faculty, staff, and students from the University of Rochester and any of the Research Centers in Minority Institutions (RCMI) grantee institutions.
The RCMI program, supported by the National Center for Minority Health and Health Disparities, develops and strengthens the research infrastructure necessary to conduct state-of-the-art biomedical research and foster the next generation of researchers from underrepresented populations.
The RCMI Scholarly Exchange Program promotes training opportunities, networking, project development, research placement, and pilot research data gathering with the goal of producing abstracts, publications, or joint grant applications among colleagues from different cultures, disciplines, and academic appointments.
Total projects to be awarded: Maximum of four (4) per academic year.
Amount Awarded: $3,000 per project.
Application Deadline: January 31, 2018

CIRC Winter Boot Camp 2018
The Center for Integrated Research Computing (CIRC) will conduct a six-week program to help students, postdocs, research staff, and faculty learn new programming languages and sharpen their computing and data analytics skills. The classes are designed for beginners and will cover basic topics to give enough direction to move on to self-learning tutorials or other more advanced coursework.
Each language or topic is an individual "module" and will take place during 1.5 hour lectures over 3, 6, or 9 days. Each programming module is independent, and participants may sign up for one or more modules (i.e., languages to learn).
Classes start on January 23rd and continue through March 1st. The classes will be taught in the VISTA Collaboratory, located on the first floor of Carlson Library.
The schedule and descriptions are listed on the registration site. Space is limited, so register early.

University Research Awards
Applications are requested for the 2018-19 University Research Awards. The Request for Proposal and application are now available.
In addition to the typical UR faculty membership, an application may be submitted by a UR faculty member (as the first-named, Lead Investigator) for a collaboration with faculty outside of the University of Rochester, as long as matching funds can be guaranteed from the US institution(s) in which non-UR faculty member(s) hold their primary appointment(s). International collaborations also may be entertained with the same criteria, some of which may be in-kind support, if demonstrated before the submission review.
Applications must be received by 5:00 p.m. by Friday, February 23, 2018. Late submissions and or revisions will not be accepted.
Please note that selected applicants may be asked to present their research project to the Executive Research Committee prior to the final award decisions, which will be announced mid-May. Recipients of this award are required to peer review future University Research Award proposals.
Completed applications should be directed to Adele Coelho, faculty outreach coordinator, in the Office of the Provost and senior vice-president for research, at adele.coelho@rochester.edu.

PCORI Creates Engagement in
Health Research Literature Explorer
Finding literature on engagement in health research can be challenging, because there are no standard search terms or language for describing what engagement means in this context. PCORI staff members have put together a searchable list of publications on engagement in health research.
This resource is sortable by article type, types of stakeholders engaged, and phase(s) of research in which engagement occurred, from identifying research questions to sharing study results.
Visit PCORI to learn more.
