Novice Squash Social
January 13, 10-4 pm
We will be running some novice squash socials with round-robin games and matches - the first one will be on Saturday, January 13 from 10 am til 4 pm. If you are interested, email Kyle to sign up or for more information.
Cost = $10 to play and there will be snacks and door prizes!
2018 Winter Squash League
The weekly squash leagues will start up again in the new year. The league will run on Wednesday evenings, and likely also again on Thursdays.
The league will start in the second week of January, on January 10 and 11.
If you would like to play in the league and you haven't already confirmed, send us a note at info@kamloopssquash.ca.
Spring Squash Tourney
We are planning to host a local fun, no-frills squash tourney this spring. Tentative dates are March 9-11, April 6-8, or April 13-15 - email us if you would like to play and haven't already indicated when works for you - we'll send out notice of the scheduled weekend early in the new year!
2017 AGM Report
The Kamloops Squash Association held their annual general meeting on Monday, December 11 at House 10 on the TRU campus; a copy of the minutes of the meeting is available on request. Discussion focused on current and future options to develop squash in Kamloops, with a key focus on maintaining and increasing use of the courts at No Limits Fitness.
Many thanks to Eric Valdal, who has stepped down after serving as president for the last three years, and we are glad to welcome Carol Blake as a new director.
For information on the KSA, please visit the website at www.kamloopssquash.ca.
Box League
The box league runs throughout the year, and works well for players who can't play regularly in the weekly league, and also for anyone who wants to get an extra game in here and there. You will have to commit to playing your matches each session, which will average about one match a week (or 4-5 in the last week, for the procrastinators).
Players are placed into groups (boxes) of 4-6 players (for some reason the boxes currently are much larger... call it an experiment of sorts - this will likely change in the next round). At the end of each session (usually monthly), the top 1-2 players move up, the bottom 1-2 move down, and the middle players remain in place.
If you are interested in playing in a box league, send us an email at info@kamloopssquash.ca.
River City Squash
River City Squash is a program for at-risk children and youth, combining sport coaching with tutoring and mentoring. The intent of the program is to connect with students in grades four to seven and to offer support through to graduation from high school.
RCS offers the program at no cost to the children or their families, and we are deeply grateful for the support we have received from our supporters to run the program. We will need volunteers in the new year, to help on the squash court, to act as mentors and chaperones, and to help with homework and academic studies. If you would like to help in any way, as a volunteer or to offer support financially (donations are tax-deductible), please contact us at 250-314-9600 or email Dave at dclutton@telus.net.
The website for the program can be found at www.rivercitysquash.org, and the summer newsletter pdf is available here.
