Bingley Town Council mailing no. 16

A Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all councillors and staff at Bingley Town Council!

Here is a brief update on some of our recent activity, including seasonal information on our gritting initiative and of course the new Christmas lights!

There’s a look forward to some Green and Clean events in the new year and a quick reminder to have your say in our consultation over plans for the public toilets.

Our next quarterly newsletter is at the printer's and will be on the streets in the next couple of weeks. We hope you find it an interesting read and look forward to your feedback.

Best wishes,

Ros Dawson

Chair, Bingley Town Council

Christmas Lights and Festivities
Bingley’s new Christmas lights were officially switched on by BBC Look North presenter Harry Gration on 25th November as part of the annual Christmas Fayre organised by Bingley Chamber of Trade and supported by the Town Council.

The new lights, including the five Christmas tree lamp post decorations chosen by residents, were part of a £9,000 investment by the Town Council and have already attracted lots of positive comments.

Thanks to liaison between Bradford Council and Cllrs Mark Truelove and John Goode, who lead the Christmas lights project, spare lights were used to extend decorations from the market square and Arts Centre area along Chapel Lane and Wellington Street.  In addition, a grant of £369 was awarded to Cottingley Community Association to enhance the village’s existing lights.

The Christmas Fayre was a huge success.  Cllr Michelle Chapman organised the stalls, with 30 inside the Arts Centre and 34 outside all reporting brisk business despite the very low temperatures on the day.

The Council also took part in the new Christmas Tree Festival at All Saints Parish Church on 15th and 16th December. Trees were decorated by groups on the theme of individual carols, with the Town Council tree decorated on the theme of Ding Dong Merrily on High.

Grit bins

Bingley is better prepared for cold weather, thanks to Bingley Town Council investment and collaboration with Bradford Council which has overall responsibility for gritting and grit bins.

In a project led by Cllr Sara Hardman, councillors mapped every grit bin in the parish to identify areas most in need of new or replacement grit bins and also pinpointed key routes used by public transport that also require gritting.

The results of the survey and discussions with Bradford Council have led to the replacement or repair of nine bins and provided four new bins on Oakwood Drive, Pendle Road, Timble Drive and Primrose Bank. Bingley Town Council has spent a further £400 on new bins on Belgrave Road, Bailey Hills, Falcon Road and Birchdale. In addition, Lady Lane, Crownest Road and Marley View are now included on Bradford Council’s gritting routes. The Town Council will monitor the situation over the winter.

Anyone with questions or concerns about gritting should contact Bradford Council on 01274 431000.

 Public toilets consultation reminder

There’s still just time for you to let us know your thoughts about the Town Council’s proposals for the public toilets.

As the toilets will be closing in March 2018, the Town Council has been exploring the possibility of developing the current toilets site in Jubilee Gardens into a single-storey building to provide a central office space for the Council and retain public toilets for Bingley.

We held public consultations on 2nd and 17th December and are keen for as many people as possible to complete a survey. Forms are available at Bingley Library and Cottingley Cornerstone, and you can also complete the survey online. All the information can be found in the documents section of our website and the survey is at: https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/BTCsurveyfacebook.

The deadline for responses is 31 December.
