Deagon Ward E-News

Christmas 2017

Christmas is just around the corner and after a very busy festive season I would like to take this opportunity to wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. It has been a privilege serving as local Councillor over the last year and I look forward to working with residents in the diverse suburbs that make up the Deagon Ward in 2018.

Over this past year I have had the opportunity to work closely with many residents, community groups, schools, churches and other levels of government. The community we live in is very special with people who look out for each other. Christmas can be a tough time for some people - so if you see someone struggling please lend a hand.

We have had a bumper year of events with some brand new annual events including Gardening at the Gate, Dogs Day Out and Men's Health Walk.

While there is really never a quiet time in our community, this time of year is always particularly busy. This shows what a well connected and engaged community we live in. I would like to thank the community groups and volunteers who make these events possible for us all to enjoy!

My office will reopen on Monday January 8. If you have any urgent Council enquiries before then you can call council's 24 hour contact centre on 3403 8888. For any storm emergencies over this time the SES can be contacted on 132 500.

Keep an eye out on my Facebook page to keep up to date with local news and events over the New Year.

Cheers & Merry Christmas

Jared Cassidy

What's Coming Up...

Australia Day By The Bay

Wayne Swan and I have teamed up once again for Australia Day by the Bay 2018!

We will be keeping our successful 2017 format with a day full of activities for the community. We will have our citizenship ceremony in the Sandgate Town Hall at 10.30AM. This will be followed by a FREE BBQ and band at Upper Moora Park with a visit from Peebo & Dagwood the clowns and a jumping castle and facepainting for the kids. We will have more shade and seating this year, so bring your picnic blanket and get a spot early!

To finish the day we have our world famous Cotton Street billy cart races starting from 3.00PM - sponsored by Stirling Hinchliffe once again.

I would like to thank all of our sponsors this year including Northside Family Law, Bayside Star Newspaper, Bracken Ridge McDonalds, Kuhn Corp Press and Packaging and Remax Sandgate.

Hope to see you on Australia Day
