Our first tasting of 2018 will take us back to our roots, with a Virginia Wine Tasting. We will be featuring the wines of Sunset Hills, from Loudoun County. If you are still of the antiquated thinking that Virginia Wines aren't any good, this tasting will change your mind. They are amazing. We will have the winemaker Corry Craighill & GM Matt Riley here for you to meet and to answer any questions you may have. The tasting will be Sat. Jan. 27th from 1p-4p. We have been proud supporters of the Virginia Wine Industry for 20 years & it's time for you to get on board. You'll sample their Mosaic, Petit Verdot, Chardonnay & White Blend. We'll have special pricing on them during the tasting in addition to the 10% discount we always provide. These wines will blow you away.
We have a load of stellar vino on great specials right now! Brand new stuff for you & some old favs. They are listed below, starting with a 90 point Moscato D'Asti!
Michele Chiarlo’s 2015 Moscato D’Asti

From Piedmont with an ideal micro climate for growing Moscato, it's hand harvested from select vineyards with southern exposure and placed in pneumatic presses, followed by a slow fermentation using natural yeasts to a low level of alcohol. Unfermented Moscato grape must is then added to fine tune the sugar levels. It's bottled quickly for freshness. Michele Chiarlo named it Nivole after the Piedmontese word for clouds.
Wine Enthusiast gives it 90 points!
Tasting notes: This sweet, fragrant, lightly sparkling wine has vivid aromas and flavors of peach, apricot, grapefruit and sage on a light body with a delicate finish typical of Moscato d’Asti.

Regularly $21.59 Now $15.99

The Crusher Red Blend

This is a Tempranillo-driven red wine blend that has plush aromas of tart cherry, raspberry reduction sauce and toasted cedar. Red fruit dominates the forefront with succulent boysenberry and red cherry juice flavors accented by cedar notes from the French oak. It's medium bodied with balanced acidity and finishes with notes of Dutch cocoa.

Another fine Don Sebastiani & Sons wine it's a  blend of:
64% Tempranillo
18% Petite Sirah
16% Merlot
2% Cabernet Sauvignon

Regularly $17.59, Now $12.99

Kennedy Point Sauvignon Blanc 100%  Sauvignon Blanc.

From Marlborough, the grapes are grown in the hot, stony soils of the Wairau, producing a wine redolent of fresh cut wild flowers and a full palate of passion fruit, gooseberry and citrus. The wine has a crisp dry finish and is perfect as an aperitif, with seafood or any light summer meal.

Wine Spectator gives it 90 points and says: "Ripe and fleshy, with melon, kiwifruit and peach flavors that show richness in addition to a crisp, vibrant finish, revealing a hint of lemongrass. Drink now. 2,000 cases made.–MW"

Normally $18.59, Now 14.99

Eikboom Bush Vine Chenin Blanc

Five generations of the Louws family have farmed Eikeboom, which means "oak tree grove".  Jan Nicolaas was the first in 1864. The Farm is around 900 hectares with sheep, wheat, cattle, and grapes, they produce about 1,000 cases of wine in total.
This is an intense, lively, fruity and beautifully balanced & dry Chenin Blanc. With a great minerality and flavors of pears, sherbet. As the wine was aged for a long time on the lees, it has a great mouthfeel and the resulting fruity aromas are very pure and clean. The finish is quite long with a refreshing lime and mineral length. These grapes were planted more than 20 years ago (in 1990). The pruning technique used is 100% bush vines.

It's normally $14.59, Now it's $9.99

Valley of the Moon Zinfandel 2012.

This one is back from our 20th anniversary tasting. The winemaker says, "Aromas of cinnamon, orange zest, white pepper, and dried ginger lead to a lush mouth-feel accentuated with ripe blackberry compote flavors finished with soft tannins, balanced acidity, and lightly toasted oak." It's 100% Sonoma County Zin.

It's a $24.59 wine & you'll be able to pick it up for $17.99.

Two other favorites are back!
  • Don & Sons Pinot Noir 2015, normally $25.59, it's back at $16.59!
  • Indwe Pinotage Normally $12.59, it's $9.99
Our customer review is from Michael Kitt, a long time friend and restaurateur. He reviewed the Vino de Eyzaguirre Syrah 2015 for us! Here's a little background on Michael: "I, along with my wife and her family, have Thai Winchester Restaurant. My father was one of the founders of the international wine club, Les Amis du Vin (Friends of Wine) so I was brought up in a wine drinking household."

Eyzaguirre (pronounced “eza-gwary”) is from the central valley in Chile. Wrapped in burlap, originally to prevent breakage, it poured a deep ruby red typical of  Syrah  (also known as Shiraz in some parts of the world). It's medium-bodied with a slight sharpness upon opening but it quickly smoothed out after pouring, proving to be well balanced between fruit, acid, and tannin. I couldn’t taste the vanilla notes from the bottle’s description, but strong tastes of berries and hints of tobacco were present. It made a great accompaniment to a spicy, citrusy Thai beef salad. It is a modestly priced wine that would pair well with meats or spicy foods.
