'Celebrations' Themed AV Shows
London 3D Meeting - Saturday 13 Jan 2018

Andalucia

Come along to St Pancras Church Hall near Euston station this Saturday 13th January 2018 and watch audio-visual shows from the Society's best show-builders.  This year the theme is "Celebrations", and it will be interesting to find out how members have chosen to interpret this unusual topic.

40 years of marital harmony, Moorish art, stereo photography, Jane Austen, the Hawker Hunter, the Black Cab and a 3D superstar are amongst the topics some of our show-makers have chosen to celebrate.

Others have picked an award winning guitarist, Shanghai’s Info 2010, the Stockton & Darlington railway, a 3D theatre, a Warwickshire hospital, the life of Shakespeare, and a fine miniature railway.

Why not come along and enjoy a couple of hours of great entertainment?

Mike Hillyard.

Doors open at 2pm for a 2:30pm start, finishing by 5pm.
Entrance: £5.00 including refreshments. First time visitors free.

Held at St Pancras Church Hall, Lancing Street, Camden, NW1 1NA off Eversholt Street opposite east side of Euston Station.
See web site for further details.

We had a most enjoyable festive London meeting. After the excellent TDS show and one of the equally excellent ISU Code 20 shows from Stephen O'Neil, we had a very pleasant Christmas fare extended refreshments break.  Thanks to all who provided the festive fare, especially Paul Gibbs!

After the break, the meeting was nicely rounded off by the Digital (fun) competition, and I'd like to thank everybody who submitted entries. ALL the entries were much appreciated and enjoyed.

This year, every member of the audience was given a score sheet and simply asked to tick their three favourite entries. The entry with the most ticks wins.

I put all the entries into a Magix show - with the title and a number superimposed for about 5 seconds and each image shown for 12 seconds. We viewed this show twice and then the audience placed their ticks.  Whilst Colin and I counted ticks, The meeting then watched the show for a third time - this time with the Stereographers' names added.

It gives me great pleasure to announce that there was a tie for first place:

    Barry Aldous with "Fountains Abbey"
    Bob Taylor with "Hovis"

And there was also a tie for third place:

    Colin Metherell with "Brain Coral"
    David Ford with "Sunlit Glade"

Mary Paul had 5th place with "In the Cockpit"

Again there was a tie for 6th place:

David Ford with "Tamar River View"
George Sage with "At the Cottage, Stourhead"
Ian Rawat with "Sea View, Arran Islands"

Once more, thanks to everybody who submitted entries.

As a final note, we had three "posthumous entries" this year: Ian Rawat kindly supplied three very nice images from a past member; GEW Herbert who was a society member in the early 20th Century. His images did OK (actually very charming!) and it opens up the question, can we run some sort of event focussing purely on the work of past members, with images drawn from the archives?

Wishing you all a happy new year for a great 2018.

Mike Hillyard

Stereoscopic Society Competition 2018
Closing Date 31st January 2018.

This is a gentle reminder that if you wish to enter the Stereoscopic Society annual exhibition for this year (and I very much hope you do) your entry has to be submitted by the end of this month. You should have received the entry form with the recent Society magazine just before Christmas, but an alternative is to find the form on the Society website, www.stereoscopicsociety.org.uk. Look under Membership Benefits; Competition and Exhibition and then click on Download form.  If you have any queries please contact the competition organizer David Ford by e-mail competition@cotsford.co.uk or telephone 020 8715 2148.

As in previous years the intention is to show all images submitted, except those with viewing problems, at the London and Coventry meetings, and a shortened show of winners at the annual convention.

At this moment there are only 4 entries compared to 63 last year.

David Ford

General Secretary

Following the resignation of Bob Aldridge we are without a General Secretary again.

It is most important for the continued smooth running of the Society that we get a new General Secretary elected as soon as possible.  We are unconstitutional without one.

Please can YOU do this essential job, or do you know someone who can?

Please read the description below it is not such an onerous job as at present we have a separate Minutes Secretary for committee meetings, relieving the General Secretary of such obligations, so your location and ability to attend meetings is incidental.

Please Help.
