Dicamba Training Sessions Now Available - The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship (IDALS) recently issued the Special Local Need labels for Engenia®, FeXapan™ herbicide Plus VaporGrip® Technology, and Xtendimax® With VaporGrip® Technology. These labels require all applicators that intend to apply these products to attend an Auxin Herbicide training that has been approved by the IDALS Pesticide Bureau and offered by a registered Auxin Herbicide training provider.
The Agribusiness Association of Iowa is a hosting website, dicambatrainingiowa.org, that is listing the dates, times, and locations of programs that have been approved by IDALS. The first few hit the list this week, and the closest I see on the list as of today is at Rock Rapids on January 29. ISU Extension will not be conducting this training, others will be doing it. This website also provides additional information related to the regulations of dicamba-based products for use with dicamba-resistant soybeans. Applicators must retain records that show they attended an IDALS approved auxin training prior to use, but not purchase of these products. Remember, you have to do this in addition to whatever you do (continuing education, testing) for your restricted use pesticide certification.

Crop Advantage Meeting in Le Mars Jan. 23 – The Crop Advantage Series around the state of Iowa has been well attended again this year. We had over 200 at the Sheldon site on January 3. I think they had a great day! Don't miss the chance to attend one of the few Crop Advantage meetings remaining! There are two left in the region, Le Mars on January 23, or Denison on January 25. Every location has a different agenda, so see details of workshop options for each site at the Crop Advantage website. Attendees must attend the entire meeting to receive private pesticide applicator recertification, which is now included in the meeting registration fee. Certified Crop Adviser credits are available. Here is the agenda for the January 23 session in Le Mars:

Early registration for each location is $50; registrations received less than seven days prior to the meeting or on-site are $60 ($50 price is good through midnight of January 16 for Le Mars). Registration includes lunch, proceedings booklet, and optional private applicator recertification or CCA credits. Upcoming Events:
** Private Pesticide Continuing Instruction continues. The entire schedule for the nine counties where I will be teaching this winter is located here. Additionally, if you or someone you know needs to take any of the pesticide applicator tests this winter, check this web page for dates and locations where IDALS will be offering these tests.

**Confinement Site Manure Applicator workshops for 2018 are set for January and February – Iowa law requires confinement site manure applicators to attend two hours of continuing education each year of their three-year certification period, or take and pass an exam once every three years. Due to uniform certification deadlines, applicators are encouraged to attend workshops prior to March 1 to avoid being assessed a late fee of $12.50. **Soil Fertility Short Course – This 2-day session will be held in Ames on February 20 & 21. The registration deadline is February 12. Agenda details and more can be found at this web site.
