Tip of the week
Want to strengthen a new friendship? Say 'Thank you'. Research from the University of New South Wales in Australia found that thanking a new acquaintance makes them more likely to seek an ongoing social relationship with you. Learn more about the research.
Look clever at a cocktail party
Philosophers have been advising us to be grateful for a long time. The ancient Greek stoic philosopher Epictetus said "He is a wise man who does not grieve for the things which he has not, but rejoices for those which he has." Epictetus's advice has influenced emperors, psychologists and poets over the centuries. Read more about Epictetus.

Article of the week
In Praise of Gratitude - Harvard Medical School
"Gratitude is a way for people to appreciate what they have instead of always reaching for something new in the hopes it will make them happier, or thinking they can't feel satisfied until every physical and material need is met. Gratitude helps people refocus on what they have instead of what they lack. And, although it may feel contrived at first, this mental state grows stronger with use and practice."
Product of the week
5 Minutes Journal
March, Darren & Ian have all tried the journal and found it helpful in cultivating gratitude. For March it's become the cornerstone of his morning routine. Lots of fans on Amazon too:
"This is such a lovely and easy tool for personal development and general gratitude and awareness. Easy to use. Also, discreet, as it looks like a hardbound book so I can carry in my purse and fill out at my desk. I find myself looking forward to journaling and as the title suggests, it literally only takes 5 minutes."
