Let's Get Comfortable!

Happy Monday! I hope your first week of the new year has got off to a great start. How are those resolutions going? This week I’m thinking about comfort zones and how they shape us. I can quite safely say that I enjoy being comfortable, part of this is due to having quite an anxious disposition but also due to it being a learned habit. Every week I do pretty much the same thing. My makes all follow a similar checklist. My everyday clothes fit a self-imposed dress code and I find myself doing the same things every day. Perhaps I am too firmly in my comfort zone.

According to the Oxford Dictionary Comfort is :

With that in mind, it seems strange that we are constantly told to push ourselves out of our comfort zone. Let’s be real, no one actively seeks a life full of pain - if you do I question why? Yet comfort zones, despite this definition, are seen as constraining and limiting. We live in a world where we are constantly told that we should be wanting more and the moment we feel ourselves feeling comfortable then we are not doing enough.

Life is full of different comfort zones. Ones we place on ourselves on a daily basis, like how close we stand to the platform edge. Bigger life ones, like staying in a job that doesn’t bring you joy but does bring you money. Then superficial comfort zones, like always wearing dresses. While 'pushing yourself' every now and then can be important, there are some comfort zones that need to be maintained to give your life balance.

I write this at a time of change. From moving flat to planning a wedding, my comfort zone is being tested. While these changes bring me anxiety, having lived safely within my comfort zones for the past few years, part of me is excited to be forced out. But this can only be tested so far, so while I find life’s comfort zone being stretched, things like my style comfort zone get smaller. So currently I find myself wearing clothes that put me at ease and planning makes that don’t stretch me. In fact I've taken to outfit planning as a way to put myself at ease every morning. After all you can only take so much at one time.

Whether you're looking for ways to push yourself or not. Take a moment for you this Monday.

Glossier Generation G
Finding what's good on YouTube can be tricky but these three stylish ladies are killin' it when it comes to vlogging. All of their videos inspire me to push myself out of my comfort zone in different ways. I hope they leave you creatively and stylishly inspired.

1. Rachel Nguyen from That's Chic
Rachel's vlogs encapsulate LA cool but what I love most about her videos are they are like mini art pieces and so beautifully put together. W
atch The Apartment.
2. B. Jones Style
Watching Beth's
What I Wore videos remind me to stretch my comfort zone and be more adventurous with the styles I put together. While I don't think I'm brave enough to try all her looks, her Always Play Dress Up motto is a solid one to live by, especially on a bleak Monday morning.
3. Liv Purvis from What Olivia Did
If you're not familiar with Liv Purvis then have you been living under a rock? She's basically the Alexa Chung of the blogging world, effortless, cool and can do very little wrong. While all her videos provide a healthy dose of inspiration, I really enjoy her Inside the Wardrobe of series.
