Check out some old fashions worth bringing back to upgrade your modern style in the New Year.
#APLambassador 29 | New Year, Old Fashion
Hello, Social Media Ambassadors!
Happy New Year! Did you make any resolutions for 2018? Perhaps you plan on hitting the gym, or meeting some impressive reading goals? This period of transition is an opportunity to look forward to what the year may have in store for you, while also serving as a convenient stage from which to look back and reminisce on the past.
Taking a look back is what we specialize in here at the Library's Austin History Center (AHC) and we are particularly excited to celebrate the New Year with a special look back at some old fashion. In a series of posts on the AHC Facebook and Instagram– every Saturday from now until February 10, 2018 – we’ll share images from our Jones Glass Plate Negative Collection, which features women’s clothing style from the 1880s. You're welcome to tap, save, and share two examples below. Admittedly, it's difficult to reminisce about a time predating all of our births, but we have no doubt you’ll enjoy these images. Maybe you'll find some old fashions worth bringing back to upgrade your modern style in the New Year. Or maybe you're interested in learning the intricate art of 19th century fan flirtation?
Donated to the AHC after being discovered in an Austin attic, the Jones Collection is an incredible resource for learning about Austin in the 1880s, a stark reminder of the value hidden in so many homes throughout our community, and a wonderful example of the type of resources you can discover at the Library.
Share our posts and help us remind family and friends of all the material awaiting discovery in the local attics of our community. Remember to use the hashtags #APLambassador, as usual, plus #NewYearOldFashion. Tag us on Facebook and Instagram with the handle @AustinHistoryCenter to alert us to your shares. Thank you all for your support. You can send any questions about Austin history my way by replying to this email.
