February Maker Space Events

Thank you to everyone who has already gone through our 3D printing and laser cutting certifications. We are rapidly approaching out 100th certification, and that's very exciting. We'll be adding soldering and sewing certifications this month, as well as automating our most popular certification for 3D printing.
We've also added 3D scanning to the services we offer. You can scan 3D objects and bring them into your favorite editing programs or print them out. We hope this service will add another dimension to what the maker space can empower you to do.

Safety Certification Courses

Remember, you'll need to be safety certified on the equipment before you can use the equipment at the maker space freely. Certification courses are 1 hour long and involve a bit of instruction, a quiz, and a hands-on activity that will serve as your certification badge. Regular certifications are scheduled for Wednesdays at 4pm, and can be schedule at other times by request.
  • February 14th, 4 pm - Laser Cutter Safety
  • February 21st, 4 pm - Soldering Safety
  • February 28th, 4 pm - Sewing Safety
  • March 7th, 4pm - 3D printing safety
We are also holding open certifications on Saturday mornings at 11am for whatever technology the people gathered vote on.

Classes and Activities

This Friday, February 9th, we'll be having an intermediate Tinkercad course to teach basic 3D modeling. You do not need to have a 3D printing certification to take the course, but you will need one if you want to print out what you model in this class.
On Friday the 16th we'll have our first beginners course on Blender.
On March 2nd we'll have a class on using Inkscape to make models for laser cutting.
Then, mark your calendars for Friday March 16th when we'll be having our first guest instructor, local maker Russ Jarmillo, share his Fusion 360 knowledge.

You can Help

The Maker Space is currently looking for hobby supplies for classes and activities, including glue guns, scrap fabric, sewing supplies, hobby motors, soldering projects, and whatever else you can donate. If you've got something that has just been gathering dust on your shelf, why not bring it to the maker space and let us put it to good use? You can bring by items at any time the space is open.
