Experiential Education
Professor O’Connor’s Digital Authoring Practicum class met with Rev. Sky Starr, the founder of Out of Bounds (OOB), a volunteer-driven non-profit that supports community members who are witnesses, survivors, or families with trauma of deaths due to violence. Rev. Sky Starr elaborated on the work Out of Bounds does such as individual and group support meetings, responses to crisis, and trauma-focused training. Rev. Sky Starr stated that a significant need is getting the organization more exposure to be able to support more people. The Professional writing students looked at how they would be able to generate that exposure through re-design of the Out of Bounds website, Facebook and newsletter, along with creation of a Twitter and Instagram page for Out of Bounds linked to the website. Rev. Sky Starr expressed her plan to develop another foundation focusing on supporting any persons who face loss by providing financial assistance for the funeral. The class would be creating social media pages and initially post content approved by Rev. Sky Starr, eventually leaving that task to her and her team, one of the students stated, “We will design them in a way that you will be able to take over.” Out of Bounds is having its annual remembrance event scheduled on December 2nd, the students will be producing a campaign for it using social media throughout October and November.

Catalyst Grant
The York TD CEC is proud to announce this years winners of the catalyst grant awards. A total of $19,250 was awarded among four community and university collaborate projects. The goal of the catalyst grant awards is to fund projects that will spark change from joint community and university efforts.
1) Grow Your Grassways' Photo Voice series, dedicated to understanding the experiences of families facing relocation, the gaps in community supports, residents hopes for community infrastructure, and recommendations to improve the relocation process. Intended to use these art –based narratives to further advocate for better housing processes city-wide, inform the Toronto Community housing Corporation on how to improve their relocation process, while simultaneously showing different levels of government, the direct impact when housing is defunded.
2) Passion into Profits, an entrepreneurship training & community den will aim teach essentials of launching and maintaining a successful business. The twelve person cohorts will have an opportunity to pitch their business ideas possibly receiving $1000 towards the startup.
3) The Black Excellence Leadership Forum will form a group at Emery Collegiate building cultural understanding,leadership, and solidarity culminating in a student lead forum at York University.
4) Creating a youth led community internet radio station and program evaluation.
