Happy 2018! This is going to be a big year for us in East Dallas. I am so encouraged by the many and obvious ways the Lord moved last year, and I can't wait to see what He has in store for us next.

In this email you'll find information on joining the Launch Team, ways you can pray and a Griffin family update

Happy New Year, everyone!

– Adam Griffin

WHAT: Your first (but not last) chance to join the Launch Team
WHEN: Thursday night, February 8th, 2018 at 6 p.m.
WHERE: Winfrey Point, White Rock Lake (map link)
WHO: Anyone who wants to be on the Launch Team (kids welcome!)

The Party:
The party is a celebration to kick off a movement to plant a new church in East Dallas. It is primarily about praying and celebrating together what the Lord is doing and secondarily about meeting other people who are also making this commitment.

If you are not able to make it to the party, but you would still like to join the Launch Team, we will send out next steps for you after the event. If you want to know more about the church you'd be committing to start, know that we are trying to get some information up on the new church website in a couple of weeks.

Things to Know:
  • The party is kid friendly.
  • We will have food, so come hungry.
  • We will have a short gathering for encouragement and prayer at 6 p.m., then have a chance to get to know one another.

What is the Launch Team commitment?
If you join the Launch Team, we ask you to commit to the following:

"To the best of my ability, and with the help of God, I am eager to join the Launch Team and commit to:
  • Pray persistently for the city of Dallas and for the establishment of a new TVC church plant east of 75.
  • Support the leadership and other members of the Launch Team even in the messiness, ambiguity and adventure of the early stages
  • Be enthusiastic, yet careful, with my expectations.
  • Develop genuine and loving relationships with non-Christians in the city of Dallas hoping to be used by God to see them come to faith.
  • Maintain a consistent and genuine walk with the Lord.
  • Give faithfully to the church, as I am able, out of my time and resources.
  • Be open and available to the Lord as to how I might use the gifts He’s given me to serve the Launch Team, East Dallas and the eventual new church.
  • Attend regular Launch Team gatherings and meetings.
I understand that once the church has launched, I will have an opportunity to more clearly evaluate whether I desire to continue as a member long-term. My long-term membership and commitment would be everyone’s hope, but if not, we can rejoice and be grateful that we joined together to start a new Christian witness in Dallas."

Look for another January update in a few weeks with...
  • Website and social media launch
  • Online giving pathway
  • Reminders and details about the Launch Party on February 8th
  • The name and brand of the church (St. Hardin's Church of Perpetual Boredom is still in the mix)

Things to ask the Lord for...
  • Pray for Lily Stigall and then pray again. We want to see the Lord bless us with a total recovery. Keep up with the Stigalls here.
  • Pray for the logistics of the Launch Team and Launch Party to fall into place.
  • Pray about whether you and your family will join the Launch Team with us.
  • Pray for a location that suits the mission and membership of this new church.
  • Pray for realistic, Kingdom-focused and godly expectations for everyone involved.
  • Pray that the love of the Lord, and the desire to see His will done, would continue to be our motivation for all we do.
  • Pray for us as we design our brand and codify our mission.
  • Pray for your unbelieving neighbors by name.
Thank you for always remembering us in your prayers. So much has happened in the last month. Feeding giraffes, destroying the traditional Griffin Christmas piñata, decorating a hideous ginger bread house, 11 fire alarms night one at the Great Wolf Lodge (the first Griffin family vacation), Oscar's sixth birthday, Medieval Times, family photos, lots of time with friends and a lot of family fun.

January is a truly crazy month and we unfortunately have a lot of time apart. We are so grateful for those who help us navigate our journeys and jobs.
Adam has two weeks in Louisville for his last Doctoral classes. Adam will preach a DNow in Allen and a Sunday sermon at Declaration Church in College Station as well as marry off his ex-intern, Luke Penny. Adam and Chelsea will also be headed to DC for the March for Life. AND WE WILL PLAN AN AWESOME LAUNCH PARTY!
Thank you for praying for us and being a constant encouragement, Church!

I'll leave you with this. In anticipation of the new year, Oscar was greatly anticipating the new Memory Verse Calendar from The Village Church. Since he hadn't gotten it yet, he decided to make his own. He chose 12 verses at random and assigned each a month. For January, your Oscar-selected verse to memorize is Deuteronomy 3:3.

"So the Lord our God delivered Og also, king of Bashan, with all his people into our hand, and we smote them until no survivor was left."

Selah.
