Policy


On January 1st, Ontario Bill 148 came into effect, raising the minimum wage to $14/hr and implementing a number of other new requirements on employers. The Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, alongside the Ontario Chamber of Commerce (OCC) and management-consulting firm, MNP, have released a comprehensive handbook (Steering Through Change) to help Ontario businesses navigate the new costs and regulations associated with Bill 148, the Fair Workplaces Better Jobs Act. The NAFTA re-negotiations will be picking back up again, with the next round hosted in Montreal from January 23rd-28th. The Chamber is continuing to monitor proceedings, engage government representatives, especially in partnership with the Ontario and Canadian Chambers of Commerce.
