Knowing how important the issue of health and social care is to the community of Ashbourne and its surrounding villages, the committee of the Ashbourne and District 50+ Forum has arranged a meeting to find out more details about the proposed merger of Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Royal Derby Hospital) and Burton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (Queen’s Hospital) and how this merger could impact on service provision across the borders and the rural areas.

The Forum has secured a speaker from each Hospital Trust and from Derbyshire Community Health Services.

There will also be an equipment workshop being held on the same day at St Oswald’s Hospital by CamTAD – Campaign for Tackling Acquired Deafness.

The first-ever national #VillageHallsWeek will run from 22nd – 28th January 2018. This is a fantastic opportunity to highlight the valuable role that village halls provide to England’s rural communities and to celebrate the great work of the volunteers who tirelessly manage and maintain them for the benefit of local people.

In Derbyshire alone, Rural Action Derbyshire estimates that annually, there are around 2,500 voluntary charity trustees who freely give up their time to manage over 250 rural community halls. We believe they should be recognised for providing these vital facilities that enable people to be connected and underpin rural community life.  They provide vital facilities, activities, and services that would not otherwise be available.

To celebrate, RAD will be holding two Coffee Morning/ Networking Events during #VillageHallsWeek – Baslow Village Hall on Tuesday 23rd January and Dalbury Lees Village Hall on Wednesday 24th January.

Derbyshire County Council spends nearly £38m each year dealing with the County’s waste and over £20m of this is spent on just sending waste for disposal. One way to cut these costs is to recycle more and help reduce the money we spend sending waste to landfill.

From 2 January until 4 February 2018 DCC is running a campaign to encourage all Derbyshire residents to recycle any old, broken or unwanted electrical items with the chance of winning a £100 cash prize.

So dig out those electricals and encourage friends and relatives to do the same.

The competition and campaign are being part-funded by Advantage Waste Brokers – the contractor which works on the Council’s behalf to collect and recycle electrical items taken to our recycling centres.

Now in its third year, the Tampon Tax Fund, which was first announced by the Chancellor during the 2015 Autumn Statement, is providing £15 million in large grants to women’s charities in the UK.

The Health and Social Care Forum is a friendly and informal meeting and welcomes new members. It is well attended and provided and relaxing atmosphere where groups are able to network and share information.

The Forum is frequently used as a consultation mechanism by statutory bodies, giving organisations the opportunity to influence decisions at the highest level.

Forum members are invited to set the agenda and fully participate in lively discussions which always ensue. At each Forum there is an opportunity for any member to book a ’10-minute slot’ to talk about their organisation.

Attendance at the Forum is not restricted to members of NDVA, it is open to any health-related or social care voluntary group in Derbyshire, however, voting on any issues or elections is restricted to members.

The Better Derbyshire Dales Fund will support organisations or specific projects that aim to develop or strengthen communities and/or people’s health and well-being. We are also interested in supporting less popular causes and work that supports disadvantaged and marginalised sections of the community. There is a capital strand that will support village halls, community centres and sports clubs with costs towards improving facilities for their community.

There are quarterly rounds for applications with the next closing date being Friday 2nd February 2018. Please contact Sarah Paisley or Jonathan Simcock at DDCVS for an application form. Tel 01629 812154 or email enquiries@ddcvs.org.uk

The Do Something Different Club is a club in the Matlock locality run solely by volunteers, giving people the chance to ‘get out and about’ who cannot easily attend regular lunch/social clubs due to limited mobility.

The Club aims to put isolated people in touch with each other so that they can talk – even if it is on the ‘phone – until the next meeting – these meetings are once a month.

The Do Something Different Club arranges a volunteer to collect people from their home and take them to a local venue, usually for a meal out, and the chance to socialise.

The club really needs volunteer drivers who are willing to collect people from their homes, drive them to the venue and stay and join in the activity, and then drive them home again.

Drivers need to be willing to be DBS checked, have a clean and current driving licence, to be sympathetic to people’s needs and to be willing to stay and participate – this might be having a pub meal which sadly due to lack of funds at present, you would have to pay for.

Petrol costs for drivers are reimbursed.

If you are interested in helping out please contact Chris or David on 01629 583512 or 01629 732585.
