Uplifting the Lives of Those in Need

"By changing today’s life we can have a better tomorrow. The future is in whose hands? In our hands… if we want good we need to do good. To do good one needs blessings, that is why Amma always insists one should have devotion and do good deeds. Devotion brings a good heart to do good things. To make this life more precious, one needs devotion and good deeds. Once we do this, the rest automatically happens."--Sri Sakthi Amma

Sri Sakthi Amma's

New Year's Discourse 2018!

Brother's Daniel and Adam from Brooklyn, New York, think and act creatively to show the world what it means to do good deeds!
Daniel (age 11) and Adam (age 9 almost 10!) are taking Peedam by storm through a number of innovative fundraising approaches that have lead to $1,500 donated to Amma's Solar Kitchen Birthday Gift!

Whether making a donation in a friend's name in lieu of a birthday gift; raising money through Mom's yoga classes (thanks mom!); creating a Green Sakthi Shop with a variety of products for sale (hand picked and dried tulsi leaf tea, organic face masks, little bags, purses and meditation pillows), these brothers exerted a lot of effort to ensure that 100% of the donations would go to Solar Kitchen. Lastly, these current young philanthropists used their skills to create beautiful, divinely-inspired artworks that they donated to a silent auction they devised.

Adam's Favorite Painting: Ganesh On A Swing
Daniel's favorite God: Krishna

Q: What made you decide to raise money for the Solar Kitchen?
Adam: Because I know when you do good deeds you have a good life and the same things come back to you and I am a Green Sakthi member and I want to save trees!
Daniel: The Seva. Feeding other people because I really like to eat and I don't know how other people would be hungry. Seva is good karma.

Q: Why is the Solar Kitchen important?
Adam: The Solar Kitchen is important because if we don't save trees then we won't be able to breathe and as we know there is global warming and global warming makes polar bears die because they don't have cold and the ice melts. If we make the Solar Kitchen the trees won't be wasted because every day a ton of trees, that's a little too much... Maybe other people will be saving their countries and stuff.
Daniel: It helps preserve one ton of trees per day to cook one ton of rice for 20,000 people every day! The purpose of life is to give and help.

Q: What do your parents think of your project?
Adam: They think it is very cool because first of all the prices are going high at the silent auction and second of all because we drew them and we're not adults, we're kids...I think my parents are really proud.
Daniel: I think they are very proud of us but I am not sure because I haven't really asked....

Well let's ask, shall we?!?!....

Mom: I am happy they have the opportunity to learn that the best thing in life is to serve other people and through the Green Sakthi project of Solar Kitchen they can be creative and understand that things cost money and how to calculate and sell and share this with other children. It is very good for them.

Dad: I am very proud of them for doing it. It is in line with the values that we want to teach them. It is a great opportunity, especially living in New York where most of the people are focused on themselves and their own survival. It is great to shift this focus from themselves to others and they can see how fortunate they are.

Well-Done Brothers!!! Inspired Seva!!!

"Our future, our life is not in other's hands, it is in our hands. It is within us... so when we do good, it brings good...so Amma blesses all of Amma’s children to have a peaceful, happy, healthy, prosperous and joyful new year." --Sri Sakthi Amma

About Puja

"The rituals of puja are an expression of love to the Divine." Sri Shakthi Amma. Puja's (Divine offerings) bring the soul closer to the Divine by offering our love. The more we can spend time in Divine consciousness the more love, peace and joy is brought to the world.

There are many types of Pujas, where just about any aspect of the Divine is worshiped, including the Sun, Moon, Mother Earth, Water, Space, Air, Animals, Plants, Deities etc.

Fire puja; yagna, yagam (Tamil), havan or homa uses the transformational element of fire to make offerings to the Divine (that which encompasses all aspects). It is an ancient Vedic fire ceremony performed around the world on the eve of the full or new moon. This puja involves chanting mantras and making offerings into a sacred fire to bring peace and joy to the world. Puja, amongst other things, is a beautiful opportunity to meditate, set a new resolution, offer a prayer for the world, a loved one, for our own healing and to experience our innate divinity. Yagam is considered to be the ultimate sacrifice (or offering) and bestows immense blessings.

Full Moon Fire Puja Dates for 2017 are

January 11th, February 10th, March 11th, April 10th, May 10th, June 08th, July 08th, August 07th, September 05th, October 05th, November 03rd, December 03rd.

Bhakthi - multipurpose medicine

Bhakti yoga is the yogic path of love, surrender and devotion. Of the four main margas or paths of Yoga (Gnana, Raja, Karma and Bhakti), Bhakti is stated to be the path that embodies all four. Through the practice of Bhakti Yoga we naturally experience the wisdom of who we are (Gnana), pranayama and asana are imbibed in chanting, kirtan, pujas and sound yoga (Raja), and as our hearts become full of love we wish to do good deeds and selflessly serve all creations (Karma).
