Welcome New Year

2017 is a wrap! We are delighted to have accomplished a ton these last 12 months. And we could not have done so without financial, volunteer, and community leadership support from hundreds of you across the city.

Now is a great time to become a member to ring in 2018.

Work for WOBO

WOBO seeks a dynamic and motivated person to join our team to manage Bike to Work Day programming. You'll get to celebrate the City's biggest bike event on May 10 by planning a pancake breakfast in Frank Ogawa Plaza and a rocking happy hour. The Membership & Outreach Fellow will also work alongside the Board of Directors and WOBO staff members to broaden WOBO’s outreach and visibility, refine our membership and volunteer programs, and build our grassroots membership base.

This part-time (10-20 hours per week) position is a fun way to make a difference in Oakland and to gain hands-on experience with a dynamic nonprofit. Read the full job description.

Yield 4 Life Reflection

"Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we've been waiting for. We are the change that we seek." -- President Barack H. Obama.

Our West Oakland community members took to the streets on December 9, and declared the need to change their neighborhood streets on San Pablo Avenue between 34th/Linden and 35th. They were "sick and tired" of seeing friends and neighbors injured or killed while walking due to high vehicle speeds, unpredictable traffic movement, poorly designed crossings, lack of crosswalks, and more.

WOBO is supporting their efforts by amplifying their message and connecting the community with City and regional transit leadership to ensure that upcoming street and sidewalk improvements are coordinated to prioritize safety, comfort and accessibility of pedestrians and bicyclists.

Get Out and Enjoy

We're kicking off 2018 with some great ways to get out and enjoy the Town with friends. Join us every 2nd weekend of the month for a Saturday walk and a Sunday ride.

On the 13th, the Oakland Urban Path walk heads to the Cleveland Heights and Borax Smith estates near Lake Merritt. This 3-mile walk features stairs, hills, and stories to make your heart race. Register and Learn More.

On the 14th, the WOBO ride will be Winemaker-themed, tracing a route from Oakland's shipyards to the former Oakland-Shafter Rail yard. The ride begins at Dashe Cellars, rolls over the Bay to Treasure Island, and ends at The Oakland Yard Wine Shop. Register and Learn More.

We brave through light rain and reschedule if it pours. Check Facebook for day-of updates.
