Meet our newest member university.

We are proud to inform that the EUF Council of Rectors has unanimously welcomed the membership of the Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne University in our network! Founded in 1253 (Sorbonne) and located in the centre of Paris (Latin Quarter), Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne is one of the oldest universities in the world. The policy of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne is to conduct excellent interdisciplinary research and learning. As a result of the university’s close and long-standing ties with a large number of foreign universities (350 partners all over the world) and membership in international networks, the internationalisation of teaching and research is continuously growing and strengthening. Paris 1 has been involved in our flagship project, the Online Learning Agreement, and we look forward to expanding our avenues of cooperation with a view to advance the mobility of students and scholars and bring about a strong, modern and competitive European Higher Education Area.

OSUA initiates cooperation.

The EUF had the pleasure of participating in the first meeting of the Steering Committee of the Open Source University Alliance (OSUA). The OSUA is a very exciting initiative taken by partners of the Erasmus Without Paper (EWP) project. The OSUA will present universities with an opportunity to face the challenges of the information society by creating an open repository of source code and software. The Steering Committee discussed the progress of digitisation of European Higher Education in general and brainstormed about dissemination activities and material with the aim of attracting more and more Higher Education institutions for the repository before it opens in December 2018. Join the revolution and rewrite the rules!

More opportunities for PhD students.

The first meeting of the PhD Hub took place on the 6th and 7th of December, in Thessaloniki, Greece. This ambitious Knowledge Alliance, coordinated by the EUF, aims at developing an electronic platform that will provide PhD students, Researchers and Universities with new cooperation and funding opportunities from both the public and private sectors, both in direct research funding and commissioned research from enterprises. The event was the occasion for partners to present their vision about the project and the discussions held settled the bases for the activities that will be carried out in the first year of the project. Participating organisations: Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, University de Alcalá, Birmingham City University, University of Lodz, Hellenic Petroleum, Euroconsultants, Advanticsys, Microsoft and LSI software.

SocialErasmus+ builds bridges.

The SocialErasmus+ kick-off meeting took place last December. This forward-looking project builds upon the success of its predecessor, the SocialErasmus project, initiated in 2012 by ESN International. Thanks to this initiative, exchange students are able to be part of volunteering activities and further connect with their local communities. The promise and ambitious goals of this project are to improve the existing student volunteering programme and better integrate HEIs and schools all over Europe to create local clusters of active stakeholders and eventually have a systemic impact at a European level in terms of non-formal learning.

European Student Card and EEA 2025.

The European Student Card (ESC) consortium organised its second annual meeting in December, in Milan. The project aims at connecting existing student cards to make student services and facilities available at transnational level to any student that is traveling abroad. The project has been put in the limelight at the last meeting of the EU Head of States of the Social Summit in Gothenburg. The ESC has indeed been highlighted as one of the priorities to make the European Education Area a reality by 2025. The EUF will actively advocate to making this endeavour become true.
